Cool! You might want to come here to West Virginia. Dear Jah, it has been one big mess. Thankfully, my area was not effected...or at least we were told it wasn't. Please don't anyone think that I am comparing the two...no way, just a meniscule attempt at some humor. Breakdown of plants=tannic acid....not some disgusting chemical used to clean coal.

I always drink "pipe wata" when in Jamaica unless I am out walking and needing some wata quickly in which I'll buy the bokkled. Trust mi mon, I drink a LOT of wata when in Negril.

BTW, that truly is one cute pink nosed pup!!! Thanks for taking the time to care...and post your findings.

Thanks rjonsun for the info, yes it was a few days in the bottle before the test and I was not sure about
How soon it had to be done, I am curious though ..... I would have thought that a bottle of water with fecal matter would actually multiply as it sat there over time ..... Does it purify itself over time ? I know you have more knowledge on this then myself

Digger, good question. I know that sunlight will disinfect. I will try to remember to ask our lab tech tomorrow. We are dealing with samples that have been clorinated then dechlorinated. The 2 hour window is SOP for both EPA and Pennsylvania DEP.

Those are the results I would really be interested in studying.

Okay, a bit more information about a fecal coliform test.
It needs to be completed within 6 hours of taking the sample not 2 hours as i first stated. Once the sample is taken, it should be run right away or placed in a fridge at 4 degrees celcius for up to 6 hours. The reason it need to be run in that time frame is because if bacteria is present it will start "using up" all the oxygen. A sample that has sat for a day simply has run out of oxygen and died. In the instructions in the photo it talks about adding the "medium". Basically that is food that is added to let the bacteria grow. The bacteria need food and oxygen to grow. My thanks to Sunni our lab tech for clearing things up for me and you.

    Regards,
    Bob
