Yesterday, I happened to be at the right place in the right time when I was witness to a special and magical visit by Mother Nature on Negril Beach. I saw the hatch of 100 or so loggerhead turtle babies!! The few tourists who were up as early as me watched, guided and protected these tiny newborns as they gallantly struggled towards the ocean and then were picked up by the oncoming tide to sail away to their future! The early beach dog with the crooked tail wanted to bury them so we kept a vigil until they were all safely launched .
The mound where the turtles hatched was in a spot that was one of the few places on the beach that was dark, under developed and out of the way of beachwalkers. That mom turtle was so smartIt makes me wonder if Negril Beach was a large turtle nesting ground before any of us humans came to hatch here.
