Can I walk safely from Bloody Bay Beach to Long Beach?

    Hi all,

My wife and I are big walkers and would like to walk from our hotel on Bloody Bay over to Long Beach during the day. Is this recommended or should we not risk it and take a taxi? Also, if we walk it, where is the closest place for us to get onto the beach? Thanks. Can't wait to be back!

security at the AI'S will tell you your not allowed but you can walk in the water, after the AI s there is a trail , shoes or sandals needed, you'll come out near Cosmos to continue
on the beach or you can walk the road till you get to Cosmos then cut in to the beach. Wife and I once walked Sandels to the light house , blisters that day!

In my opinion, yes, you can walk safely from Bloody Bay to Long Beach during the day, facing traffic, staying alert, etc. That said, if you're unable to get through the AI's, I think your closest place of entry to the beach is at Our Past Time Villas, or the Boardwalk Village. Here's links to two different maps that might give you some perspective. Starting on page 2 of the first link you can get a feel for distances from Bloody Bay and beyond. The second link is somewhat interactive in that you can zoom in and mouse over various locations.

Walk road to Our Pastimes when beach. After private house you will have to walk a path off the beach. Will be back on beach at Long Bay Beach Park.

Re: Can I walk safely from Bloody Bay Beach to Long Beach?

I just wanted everyone to be aware of a situation that happened to us the last time we were in Negril. We decided to walk from Coco to Boardwalk Village. The walk was fine until the area that I believe (if my memory serves me correctly) was right after the public beach where you have to walk through a wooded area. There was another couple walking in front of us about a block or so. We noticed that as they approached the wooded area, a local man jumped out in front of them and demanded money to pass. We sort of hung back to watch what transpired. They other couple seemed to be quite shook up, we decided to walk faster to get to them in case there was a real issue. By the time we got up there, the man let the couple pass, but then did the same to us. He said something to the effect the we owe him money because us americans come and use his country and never leave any money to the local people. We told he that we leave plenty of money to people that deserve it , or are kind to us. He continued in a very aggressive manner. We keep walking, but he was very intimidating. I told him that it is people like him that give Jamaica a bad name, when the vast majority of his countrymen are extremely kind and loving. He called us "f-ing hillbilly, rednecks" ( I got a kick out of that!) and a few bumba this and that. We eventually lost him, but it wasn't a pleasant experience. We did take a cab back so we didn't run into him again. I don't know if that is a usual hang out for this guy,or if this was an isolated incident, but I just wanted to make others aware of the situation. BTW....after we got back and told a few of our local friends what had happpened, they wanted us to take them back there so they could give the man a piece of their mind. I thanked them for their loyalty to us, but declined, and said it wasn't worth it. Things like this can happen from time to time, but that was a little scary because there was not other people around. Again, I just want to make people aware.

Was this guy a local and was like 6'5 ??? Big guy????? It happened to me also,I saw this local lady at the entrance to the path acting weird and singing(it was a signal to him) so I see the guy,,,it is a secluded place....

But,,,,since I have dealt with these types,,,had my trusty walking stick(weapon) looked him in the eyes and he moved away. I think he was going to try to rob me,not ask for money.

Usually some of the other locals here of these types they will deal with it, espeacially there are a few craft vendors by the fence in that area. This would be bad for business I am sure if they caught wind of it they would be checking out what is going on. Several tourists walk that path during season its rare that you would be the only ones on that path, things are different in the slow season. I did have one trip that there was a guy by the end of the beach that harassed me every day, something about a fee for passing. He was kind of chubby guy, never saw him around there since.

My wife and I took that walk this past trip with no problem. One guy asked if why I didn't bring him a beer, but that's it.
