Re: Kuyaba: the good, the fish and the annoying

This will be the final post on this thread. First, I never said

    Not to resist your attacker
Assuming (that is) that I am "The Wise One". I don't know if I am wise or just practical in my thinking. I do have years and years of experience in dealing with Jamaicans in one to one instances. I try not to provoke a fight with a Jamaican nor will I run from one either. And that, by the way, also includes a tourist. If I am attacked by anyone, I will defend myself.

I only get upset if I am misquoted. Twice in this thread (and actually more than twice) I have been misquoted. Once by "selectively" quoting something I posted which materially changed the answer and I only pointed that out because I wanted to make absolutely certain I was "completely" understood as to what I was saying.

And now somebody attributed me saying something that I did not say at all. I don't know how else to answer for something I never ever said. I challenge anyone to quote where I said "Not to resist your attacker".

Perhaps, when someone takes a police report of an alleged crime, they can be fast and loose with the facts. That is something that I can't ascribe to anyone so you have to look inside your own motives. But, I can read and I can reason and if that makes me the "wise one" then I will accept that nickname and wear it proudly. Conversely, if you can't point out where I said "Not to resist your attacker" then you will have to accept the "dumb one" as a nickname or something similar in meaning.

I have too much good work to do to worry about what some "whatever the proper nickname" person says or thinks.

I just will move on to more constructive things.

I can't even sign this with my usual "Peace and Guidance" as I recognize likkle of either.

"It is up to the places you visit to make things Irie." "to solve a problem that is up to Jamaicans to solve is, in my opinion, ludicrous."

Jamaica does not have the greatest reputation when it comes to doing anything quickly (many would say that is part of the charm). I would think that solving the problem is not going to happen any time soon. I recently visited San Pedro, Belize and although I prefer Negril, it was very nice to not have one person try to sell me something that I had no interest in buying....the entire time I was there. I also visited Cozumel years ago and was told that the local government does an excellent job of letting their citizens know how to treat tourists and more importantly, the importance of why. I realize the higglers are poor and trying to eke out a living but they may be "biting off their nose to spite their face if people are turned off by it and stop visiting"

Please, if you are going to quote me, don't parse the quote. By taking off the front of the sentence quoted, it changes the meaning of what I said.
Thinking you can "stand your ground, pepper spray, or go "All American me" on someone...

That means that using these tactics to solve a problem is ludicrous not that it "is up to Jamaicans to solve is, in my opinion, ludicrous".

Are you not saying that it is up to Jamaicans to solve?

Sorry Fred, but I never took ownership of a friendship with you. If I get robbed by some "weak punk" then I will take care of my business like I always have. Your bravado may be a big deal for you in Negril but I don't think it translates well in rural areas. Just keep on doing what you do. I have no problem with anyone in Jamaica. Perhaps some day I will read about your exploits in the Gleaner or the Observer.

Read what I said in it's entirety. Yes, I said it is up to Jamaicans to solve. Said that very clearly at least twice.

Thinking you can "stand your ground, pepper spray, or go "All American me" on someone to solve a problem that is up to Jamaicans to solve is, in my opinion, ludicrous.
This is what I said. I think you read it right but you just didn't quote it correctly. That is all I said.

Lax1724...I was just in San Pedro in January..you are right about the 'higglers'..I have been there 8 times and if you simply say..no thanks, they let it be..There were some timeshare people in the park by the clock tower that were being too agressive..they would even stop your golf cart and would go up and down the block ...no one was safe..A bunch of people (locals) complained and that stopped..they now have a certain area by their stand in which to try to sell the timeshares...Have also traveled to Cozumel.. a lot .....they are very good there..of course, there are a few but all in all..its pleasant...

Just keep this in mind when going all Maroon on your attacker; it will not likely be just one attacker - after a few seconds you may be faced with a whole lot of attackers quite suddenly out of seemingly nowhere. (and in my experience, American law enforcement credentials don't carry a whole lot of weight to the average citizen in Jamaica.)
