Phone SIM Chip?

I apologize in advance if this has been covered recently but I can't seem to master the search function yet and stuff does change regarding chips and availability. I have the typical quad band cheapo phone I use all over Central and South America, buy a chip locally, charge it up a bit with some money and I am ready to rumble. Is it the same deal in Jamaica? Can I get a cheap chip in Negril? Thanks!

$6.00 at Digicell in town, then buy local and/or international minutes - good to go!

Digicel runs out of sim cards...Not sure why???
I guess Lime would be a good back-up plan.

Sounds great. To beebeluv, I bought a couple Blu brand quad band phones on Amazon. They are awesome. Around $20 I would not try to unlock my regular phone I use in the US.

I brought down my phone I bought from digicel 3 years ago, they tried to put a new sim card in and wouldn't work, said phone was out dated...3 years???...anyway, had to buy a whole new cheapo phone......
