Yeah, I would much prefer an intruder not being able to get in at all, compared to make a bunch of noise once he does.

With all the talk about night-time breakins, this is a good thing to have. Plus, at RiU, like a lot of Jamaica hotels, there is no deadbolt. Anyone with an old key can enter, and with such a large resort, there is too big of a chance of dishonest employees or inside jobs thefts.

On TA, there are simply too many stories of break-ins for there not be a problem. Plus, two fellow boardies, including one who is participating in this particular thread (not me), have been victimized at RIU.

Cheaper alternative... your basic rubber door stopper. Just a few bucks & really small. Someone tries to get in, the door will just get secured tighter still. I've added one to my suitcase in addition to the slider lock I've carried for years... decades, actually.

I agree Yvonne. I picked up a couple at the dollar store and use them every time I'm away. They also work to keep the door open if you like - LOL

I think it's safe without it, but you can never be too sure.

gerryg123 a little ingenuity and you could convert this into a spear gun. A multi purpose tool. At night it protects during the day it’s a weapon…

I agree the physical deterrent is a good thing. Aside from that I have an APP for the phone which is a burglar alarm(Yes there's an APP for that ). Once it is set, any movement of the phone will set it off. So if you were to lean it against the door and the door moved at all, it would trigger.
    Soon come!

So, what's a slider lock??? A lock for your sliding glass door? That sounds like a great thing to have for travels. Where do you buy these since they must be portable??

That's exactly what it is. I've had them on my 4 sets of sliding glass door here at home for 21 years, on the windows, too. Very, very small... no more than 2" long. They can probably be found online or at a big box home improvement store. Only cost a couple of $$$. I haven't seen the style I have when I looked for them a few years back but there are similar items. I'll poke around online & see if I can post a link.

Yvonne, Thanks for the link. When I looked at it, it said it locked the door in the open position....but....you use yours with your sliding glass door closed, right?
