Someone mentioned they keep an air horn by their bed when travelling. Anyone comes in, it'll scare the crap out of them & break their ear drums!

That is actually a pretty good idea. I have a bunch laying around that we can bring. The downside to this and Gerry's solution is it doesn't matter when the door gets kicked in and flys off the hinges connected to the jam. If you just don't want the door to be unlocked and easily pushed open either solution will be fine. But don't think you are by any means fortifying the door.

Everyone always thinks the doors and the locks need to be fortified, but usually they are right next to a big glass window...

Really? At home & at my place in Negril, no window near the doors. I make sure windows are locked & secured, too.

For those using the door stopper, a hint... they might not fit under the door but if you push it in on the side, same security. This stuff takes up so little room & is well worth the extra sense of security. My sister got me one of those alarms that you hang on a door knob & I do take it w/ me. Haven't used it yet. I think it can also be used as a personal alarm.

    Here is where we stayed.

My point is security is only as good as the weakest link. But anything you can do to make a lot of noise if something happens is good.

???? at a hotel in Negril ???? Can't say I've heard of that happening, but I don't claim to know everything.

That could happen anywhere, no idea on the likelihood of it happening in Negril. But keep in mind criminals usually go for the easy targets. Why kick in a door when the room next door is unlocked?
