it needs to be unlocked, then they are good to go. They must remember to never do the updates or it will revert to your original service provider.
Oh, and never recharge the phone with a computer because it will do the apple updates automatically and Bam will be locked agin (I learned that one the hard way)
Yeah. What Bluez said. Check with your provider about having it unlocked.
You're then going to need your friend to get a digicel card and have it cut down to size to fit the iphone. I did it with scissors.
Other than that, that's it.
I havent had any troubles with updates
If it was a phone you previously used, I'd want to go through the factory reset process before having it unlocked so that your personal info is totally removed before giving it to someone else. I would then think that they would have to use a computer to set up their own Apple ID so they can get apps to use...not sure if Apple ID is needed also before setting up their own email on the device. Many locals don't have their own computers so would need to borrow one to get it set up there, I would think, maybe they can get it handled at the Lime or Digicel store. Not sure, does Digicel carry iPhones yet? Lime does. If they sell iPhones, they may be able to get it set up if your friend doesn't have a computer. I wouldn't give my iPhone to anyone without clearing out everything first. If it's factory reset and unlocked, I wouldn't think it would lock up to the original provider if your friend plugged it into a computer or did updates.
Iphones with ios5 and up do not require a computer to use or set up. I believe it's 5 anyway.
