Why am I not surprised - CanJet is not liable for ANYTHING in checked Baggsge

So I had my bag broken into and a camera and sunglasses stolen from within when I left MoBay on Friday night.
I filled out a form at Ottawa and was told CanJet would call within 24hrs. They didn't, so I called them today.

When I told them what happened they said they have no liability, basically, for anything that happens to your bag or its contents.

"Go check the website," I was told, as if that was all the justification that was needed for the policy.

This policy is probably an industry standard limitation of liability.

Anyhow - be advised - your bag can be totally trashed and its contents 90% stolen and the will just say, "Sorry, check the website, you'll see we are not liable."

The last thing the CANJET woman said to me on the phone was, "Have a nice day."

    Aaaarrrrggghhhh!

    (Serenity now! . . . .Ommmmmmm)

Sorry to hear that Kahuna. But CanJet is not the only airline that will basically blow you off if your items were stolen. Spirit (computer) and USAirways (camera) fed me the say line. They aren’t responsible for anything missing from a checked bag. I was told to keep my valuables on me. Thing is the camera was left on the plane. I was the last one off so it was the flight crew of made off with that. Still after many emails and conversations, they would not compensate me for the loss or lift a finger to truly investigate.

I know nothing can be done about it now, but feels good to vent a little.

BTW, whatever became of the police investigation for the home-invasion? Were there any leads at all?

better for the airline to lose your entire suitcase - able to prove that - than specific items taken out of the suitcase - not able to prove that easily

I usually make it a habit to be one of the last ones on the plane. I figure why board right away to just sit on the plane longer, everyone lands at the same time... But if you have valuables in your carry-on, chances of having to check your bag at the gate goes up as the plane fills up. Looks like I'll be first in line with my camera gear in my carry on!

I have noticed over the last ten years since I started to put zip ties on to secure my suitcase from being easily unzipped, that nine out of ten times it as been opened up. The reason that I started doing this is because I noticed that my bags have been gone through. And yes I understand that they can be gone through in customs before you retrive them. So I never leave anything valuable in my suitcase, always carry them in my backpack. It has been kind of a game now, this year I zip tied and used duct taped to tape my suitcase shut and it did not get opened.

The one time I put a cell phone in my luggage on a trip to Mexico, it was stolen. They practically laughed in my face when I inquired about it.

United lost my sisters luggage. She had to buy all new close. Luckily a very nice hotel worker took her to Sav to buy new. The airline finally paid up but it took months of calls and letters.
