I think they all use the same contract luggage service provider in MoBay, doesn't matter which airline you fly. Good luck.

Question: does anyone think the plastic wrapped luggage is really safe? Doesn't it just say, "Hey, I've got something inside that I really want to protect." Couldn't the plastic wrap just be sliced off with a box cutter?

these are eye openers for me..and I wanted to pack my fins in my checked this time..thought maybe I was being too cautious in the past..umm nope..they are going along in my carry on with my mask and snorkel..and my suit and meds..I never wear good jewelry anywhere..just the cheap stuff. So thats not a worry..but no swim stuff... that aint happenin'.

Last time I travelled on Air Canada my suitcase got broken. The plastic inner liner inside the fabric was entirely crushed to bits. I was told to submit pictures and told where to take my suitcase and they replaced it with a new one on the spot. I was told it was because of the weight of all the other suitcases piled on top of each other and that it happens quite often. Was really happy they stepped up.

I usually just take a carry-on, but airlines here locally are now only taking checked bags, so will have to get out my big purse and try to pack in some swimsuits and sundresses because I've had my luggage lost for a week while in Negril and won't be without a swimsuit! I've tried finding swimsuits in JA, but most of them are made for extra-small young ladies. I did get some beautiful sarongs that trip, though.

I think plastic wrapping the luggage is a good idea and doesn’t necessarily send the message of the bag containing valuables.

If I’m not mistaken, each and every piece of luggage that goes on the plane is scanned/x-rayed for metals in search of firearms. Naturally the scanner will pick up harmless but desirable electronics and jewelry. If a person can reach in and pull these valuables out they will. The plastic prevents easy access and will not be sliced off as long as there is nothing inside that would prompt a search. In that case, TSA must inform you that your bag has been searched. I’ve had that notice on my luggage more than once, however nothing was ever taken.

My computer was actually a small netbook about the size of a 10” tablet. It could easily be concealed. Anything larger than that would be a challenge, but still possible.

Someone mentioned using ties which is also a good idea. If the ties are cut off, you will be notified. I use ties on side zippered pockets and ties PLUS a TSA approved lock on the main zipper. I take pictures of them before checking my bag. I also loop my luggage tags through the same zipper top as the ties. But bags that can be unzipped gives them easy access to anything small and valuable they spot when the luggage is scanned.

Fins should be safe, but if your gut tells you not to chance it, then don’t.
