Yea, me too Gerry...but these are inexpensive, easy to use and carry, and kind of scary when they activate.
I'm sort of running on the assumption that anyone who might want to sneak into my room in the middle of the night probably wants to do it without waking me or anyone else up...at about 120 decibels these things are enough to wake the dead (or heavily rum impaired)
Still don't like the fact that I even have to think about packing a security device in the first place...we should all be able to relax and enjoy our time on vacation, right?

I agree with you, Lorax, but that ain't the world we live in .... poop happens everywhere there is opportunity. Not everyone is as nice and respectful as us!

Gerry, do you have a brand on that on? Am trying to Google and not getting that one. Add-a-Lock looks interesting. So far, for me, the rubber door stop is front runner - don't want to open another Pandora's box here, but how easily are all of these de-activated - I am thinking quick escape for fire safety.

I saw those pole like devices on Amazon but they weigh 2.5 lbs each. Not sure if I want to add 5 lbs into my luggage. I've been looking at Add-a-lock just not sure how well they work. Where we stay the balcony door is more like a French door but has a bit of space in between. One door is fixed, one door opens.

I also use the pole device (but I always check a bag). In addition, I have 2 little battery operated motion sensor lights - this also helps when I have to stumble to the bathroom to pee in the middle of the night (I actually use these at home now too). And last, but not least, my FREE alarm - empty red strip bottle balanced on the door knob/window sill - this may take some practice, especially if you just finished emptying said red stripe bottles.

I also keep my laptop in an anti thief bag and my other valuables (cell, mp3 player, wallet, cash, passport, etc...) in the room safe. It takes me a couple of minutes?? to do my nightly thief prevention dance. No big deal. If a thief breaks in - Lights go on, beer bottles crash to the floor, I wake up - and he'll most likely try and grab anything (which would be nothing of value) and run. All that, IF he gets past the security pole. I feel safe enough. I am not going to WORRY about it, it's not going to prevent me from living my life, I'm just gonna be smart-er about it. A few inexpensive (and some free) security devices and a few minutes putting my stuff away at night (to be honest - most of that stuff stays locked up whenever I'm not using it.)

    OK. There's my 2 cents.

Security Pole - also works for those sliding glass doors.

I'm sad to report that today I purchased the security bar and a door stop alarm. I hate that I feel I need them, but prefer that to the possible alternative.
