How many of you bring your ATM for money or do you just bring all cash and change over as needed? I'm debating which is safer....

I still use Travelers Checks and exchange at the cambio's. Never had a problem. Also bring about 150.00 in ones for tips and trips.

Bring both cash and your ATM card. Your card is safe at the ATM's, however use the cash as a backup. Just let your bank know that you are traveling as some banks will lock your card down if they see a foreign transaction.
I actually bring two ATM cards in case I lose one. Knowing me, I will lose it, though so far I've been lucky. I also bring at least enough cash to get me through four or five days -- no small amount considering I tend to overdo it!
ATM cards are convenient and safe. There is an NCB machine as you exit the airport, all the way to your left as you face the street. No NCB service charge, but your bank might have one.
We always try to bring some JA home with us to get us started the next trip. Then we use the ATM as needed. Only time it was low on cash was over the Christmas holidays, otherwise we've never had a problem![]()
Where would the closest one to Couples Negril be? I read that that there is one across the street at a gas station, but it gives US dollars. Is this correct? We try to use ones attached to a bank in case there is a problem. I would also like to get Local currency.

Bring 2 debit cards if you have them, just in case. I once had a machine go dysfunctional and retain my card. A couple weeks ago I saw a pending bogus charge from The GAP in the USA on my account and the card was shut off when I reported it. In each case the bank express-shipped me a replacement card to JA for $15 postage.
Barb111, I was at that gas station on Monday. I used the one in the gas station building and got JA dollars. I don't recall if there was an option for US. There is also an ATM in its own building near the road (still by the gas station) next to the entrance for the Craft Market. I haven't used it for a couple years and I don't recall what it dispensed.
Thanks, Lola! Yes, we would have my card and mu hubby's just in case.
I always have some emergency cash on hand..Why?? sometimes the atm's are out of money or down..and if the current/electrcity is out that can also cause the atm machine to be down...(electricity going out is not an un-common occurence)
With that being said, i take 2 different atm cards...Just as Lola stated ,I've know a few people whos card got stuck-and its not as easy as going into the bank and retreiving it...Whole lotta hoops to jump through over many days and miles to get the atm card back...better to call your bank and shut it down and use your back -up....
I also have one credit card for ermgency/large exoenzes if necessary,,
