what a great story, thanks for sharing. I love hanging out in the morning across from Mi yard where the guys bring in their traps and clean the fish. Bring a 12 pack of stripes to share with em and sit and enjoy the goings on and see the catch of the day....

A ring of a cellphone brought me back to the present. MyCaptain removed a plastic bag from his pocket and idled the engine. He unwrapped the phone and answered. We were halfway back to shore by now and we had been spotted. His regular clients were jumping the queue to get the best of the catch. He was sorting the fish with one hand while holding the phone with the other. In mid sentence, he reeled back and screamed. He waved his hand and bit his lip while cursing in his finest patois. He had forgotten about our solitary lion fish dead in the crate. Even in death this little pest was dangerous. My Captain shook his hand through the water and returned to his merchandise. I would not like to tempt a live lion fish!

He distributed the fish into separate black plastic bags as the calls came in. I was impressed by the fact that all the fish were sold before we landed the boat. Our factory ship had landed and packaged and sold the fish as quickly and efficiently as any MBA grad could have planned. The seamless flow of the enterprise would make any businessman proud.
MyCaptain remembered to put a little parcel of fish aside for his early morning kayak guy. Once done he tended to his poisoned hand and we continued in to shore

That was awesome. Thanks for that. The misses and I are heading back to the West End later this month, then on to TB for a few days. I've done the Jamaican fishing boat experience before, but am thinking about doing a coast tour from TB. Your story along with my previous rickety boat experience both gives me pause, and inspiration. Great indeed.

The absence of the jet skis has returned a zen like feel to Negril. The navigation of the shared waters has become a little less stressful. The calmness soothes. With the beach now awake in the foreground, we slipped into our sandy berth. A small group of locals had gathered to claim their goods. Beach walkers were detouring around us. The juice guy, two bottles held over his head, was shilling " JUICES!! MANGO, PAPPAYA, PINEAPPLE!!!!" A beach dog crept closer hoping for a handout.

I asked MyCaptain if there was something that I could do. He said no. Thanks. He turned back to his business. He took money from some, to give change to others, and I was impressed by his money handling dexterity. He could have held his own with any money changer in town. There was no bartering. The prices were silently agreed to.

I felt that we should have had a more personal goodbye ceremony. After all, we had just shared an incredible journey together. And we had returned relatively unscathed. There were no manly hugs and backslapping to share. I received only a nod reply to my " goodbye, thanks, that was awesome" so I turned and on rubbery legs started back to Treehouse
