What is Easter like in Jamaica?

My wife and I will be in Negril April 19-26th. What is Easter like? Do places close down? I've also heard it mentioned as Easter Monday?

I'd love to hear from some others including residents about this as well. I can only say, that my daughters father said their family always vacationed in Negril for Easter and has easter egg hunt on the beach. They would travel from Kingston and stay at T-Water which is now abandoned next to Negril Beach Club - the oldest hotel on the beach. If I remember correctly it is still a Jamaican family destination beach for Easter. My only other comment is that Easter is same as in Canada, begins on Good Friday, then Easter Sunday and Easter Monday as well. Easter Monday is still a government holiday in Canada. In Jamaica you may find Banks and Gov't offices closed, for that reason prepare to visit the Cambio or bank before Good Friday or after Easter Monday. That's all I know for now. Tours seem to be offered on Good Friday as well. Apr 16-24th for us.

We are arriving on Good Friday if our plane is delayed is there some place that we can change money on satuday

We're getting in Easter Sunday also, ATM's will probably be your only bet other than airport, but even the airport may not be an option, get enough cash for days as I believe Easter Monday IS a holiday!

We will also be there and have been pondering the same questions...If anyone knows the grocery stoer situation over that weekend it would be very helpful...!

I was there 2 years ago. If I remember, the locals all go to the public beach out towards hedo. They also had several live shows playing that afternoon. The kids were out of school. I had brought a pack of school supplies and they were all on holiday. Everything was still open.

As far as money, I can always get money at the china man shop. Easy in and out..
