I think it's a combination of: the weather, food, culture, cannibus, beaches, the music and they do sell a decent beer! I used to think if I couldn't live in Canada I would live in America. Now Negril is my preference :-)

We're Cdn and love Jamaica because we love the vibe. As many Cdns as there are on this board, more Canadians that we know go to Cuba, Mexico or the DR than go to Jamaica. Although we don't say "aboot" I very often catch myself saying "eh" and, sorry, but I do apologize far to often

Seriously, a big part of it is the crappy weather we have for a large part of the year. Last week was march break and there was zero traffic on the roads, this week isn't much better - it's like everyone has gone south

Hey Jeff......did you also notice all the people from Minnasota, Wisconsin, Michigan, (upstate) New York, and all the other north east states?

I think the weather has a LOT to do with it.

    Go Bucky!

LOL, the northeastern United States had much worse weather this year than did Canada. I've noticed that there seem to be many more western and eastern Canadians travelling to Jamaica. I don't go to beat the weather as I go in the summer due to my job and I prefer to have 5 weeks in Jamaica at one time. As far as major cities, Toronto is one of the top multicultural cities in the world. In fact, there are more European visitors in my estimation in the summer in Jamaica vs. Americans. The only Americans I really see in the summer are during ATI and they are "black" Americans.
Americans do have many misconceptions about Canada.
Jamaican Canadians comprise about 30% of the entire Black Canadian population with over 170,000 living in Toronto and I would suggest that of this # the majority help their relatives in Jamaica.
We can easily integrate and access the Jamaican "vibe" in many Canadian provinces although there is nothing like the real thing.
The Jamaican community has had an influence on Toronto's culture. Caribana (the celebration of Caribbean culture) is an annual event in the city.
Torontonians of Jamaican descent are physicians, lawyers, tycoons, judges, professors, plumbers, teachers, and transit operators as well as employed in the construction industry and government.
We are open to all cultures .. probably a reason why many Canadians have made lasting friendships with locals while in Jamaica.
I'm sure our Canadian friends from western and eastern Canada can shed some light on their Jamaican experience both at home and in Jamaica.
Hope this helps and as a Canadian -- thank you eh !!

We're Western Canadians, last year was my first time in Negril. Had no idea what to expect, usually we have done all-inclusives in Mexico. Negril is SO much more fun! Strolling down the beach with a Red Stripe, meeting great people, extremely laid-back vibe. It doesn't get much better (and yes, we do like our subs!) Will be there in 18 days, yay!
