MBJ Airport Airline help needed with question?

We are flying back from June trip on July 3rd. I had decided since it was holidays that followed that to try today to extend trip. Only I was told it would be over $400 a person to extend. Or if I just wasted the RT and bought new One ways home it was $400 total. My question is has anyone ever found a way to extend without paying the change fees. Like I am wondering; my flight is scheduled with Delta and to go into Atlanta. What about going to the airport and seeing if anyone is trying to fly stand by and giving up our seats at the gate. Would we be able to reschedule flight for 3 days later. Where would our baggage go as this would have to occur at gate and hence bags already checked. Any other insight would be great.

If booked with miles or reward points you might get 1 free change. Or if booked with a credit card that provides such a benefit.

I don't know,airlines seem to get you coming and going,I always book on line, meaning I'm looking for cheapest( hopefully) nonstop flight,these are always non refundable tickets meaning cost you an arm and a leg to change moral is think long and hard about how long you really want to stay?,worse case you're still getting an awesome jamaica trip! Ya mon

Different airlines have different rules, but if you are looking at extending more than 24 hours you are pretty much out of luck. Some will allow for same day change as a standby for no charge or a small charge. Others will do the same thing as long as the flights are within 24 hours of each other.

Assuming you purchased one of their cheapest (ie restricted) fares, they most likely would stick to their guns and make you pay for a change, unless you spoke to someone at the check-in counter who was willing to make an exception, which would be highly unlikely in my opinion.
