Riu hotels

Have friends asking about riu. I have never stayed there. It is cheaper than the other a/I s other than grand pineapple is what has interested them. Is one better than the other? What are the positives and negatives.

I'd stay at the grand pineapple if it were between the two. I stayed at RIU, and it is far removed from much of the fun attractions in Negril.

Grandpineapple is nice location. Take a left or a right once you hit the beach and there's plenty of things to do.

Thank you. We have stayed at the grand pineapple a few times and believe it's the best value on the heach. However the food and rooms are nothing to write home about in my opinion. Is the riu not more on the scale of sandles and those places?

I stayed at RIU Club.

The Room was probably 3 Star by US Hotel standards. King Sized Bed AC, Clean. Small fridge with a few beers sodas and waters. A little alcohol dispenser. No real complaints.

The beach in front of Riu Club is not as nice as the beach in front of Grand Pineapple. Lots of sea grass and muck in the water, not really a sandy ocean floor. No really Higglers though.


For me personally, unless I got a deal that knocks my socks off, I would prefer to stay elsewhere. Particularly on the main beach. Though there are some wonderful properties on Bloody Bay.

Right now the RIU is $125 a night at that rate if you are Ok with being out there from town the buildings and rooms and offerings are very higher scale than Pineapple who is asking $148. That is a remarkable price for RIU which I have never seen before. It's not often those two are priced similar.

I got a great deal..$1100 per person. 8days 7 nights INCLUDING non stop air from OHare... Cant beat that ...had to do it! I arrive May 18th , Already know the beach is Just OK.. but can walk down to RIU Tropical for the better beach and already plan on spending a couple days down 7 mile... Will give a full report at the end of May

Honey518 that is an amazing DEAL!!! I am 4 hours north of chicago but I just paid $943 just for air.

Been to both. This is when we were non experienced travelers. Now, only want to stay at the small places. ie: Seastar, coco, treehouse etc. But anyhoo, the Club Hotel Riu is o.k. food good, drinks etc. The beach in front of this Riu is hard sand, the water is not clear, the bottom of the ocean is mucky. Paul, the singing bartender at the lobby bar is a great guy, and a very good singer, as he is mixing drinks. You have no access to the other Riu. The tropical Riu is a little bit better as far as food goes. {It costs more to stay here}. The beach is really good, and the ocean is amazing, clear etc. You have full access to the Club hotel Riu . Both these places have 400+ rooms, so when they are full, times that by 2 or 3, and you are searching for beach chairs, and places to sit for the restaurants. We are opting for less hassle, and a more relaxing experience. Sorry, Riu's, I'm just saying........ We spent a lot of moola there with you. But, yeah if you can get a really good deal on either one of these two, and want the A.I. vacation , go for it. Just my 2 cents! Yamon' One more thing, Bloody Bay can get boring, walking it everyday. There is soooo much more to experience in Negril. I should be a travel agent!

Shelly K... I lucked up on that deal ..Apple Vacations had a 7 night special . That included all taxes, fees, and transportation
