    Melissa,

Great having you in the chat during the webcast tonight! And thanks for rekindling those memories from the original "Boardie Bashes" that we called the "Meeting of the Board" way back when.... (grin)

Looking forward to seeing you again and we will be sending you some of those links!

    See you soon!

Hi Mellisa, I love Jamaica, I was lucky enough to find this forum 8 months ago, and it was great to find so many
like minded people, that it was kind of crazy.
The night I got home, I was bummed out about some stupid stuuf, and I did what I do every night, and check Negril.com.
I read your thread , and my simple worries totally faded.
To read your outlook on things was amazing. People always ask me, Jo, why are you so alwys upbeat, so happy, and I say
whynot, each day is a blessing, that's probably why I love to travel so much, enjoy every moment.
It looks like im going to miss your stay in Negril, by about a week, but you are the epitome of the Negril traveler, don't worry, be happy, have a great time, fellow boardie!!!

I remember you too and echo everyone's sentiments! I went to Jamaica almost 18 years ago (the first time) when my mom passed after a long battle with cancer and have kept going back because it's such a special place. Keeping you in my prayers. Your attitude is a great lesson and inspiration for all of us and is truly a gift to your loved ones.

Three Little Birds you are a bright and shining star who the members of this forum are very fortunate to have been able to share this incredible journey with. Your outlook is one of a woman who has lived life to it's fullest and is totally at peace with herself. I must also Bless Up this Board for so warmly and wholeheartedly embracing you. May you enjoy the days you spend in Negril.

Also, there may be devices that are designed for the Visually Impaired that provide audio feedback when you use a keyboard for communication purposes that may not be so physically taxing. Try Google and ask if there is anything out there that is available for rent on a month to month basis. Best Wishes.

    Hi Melissa,
I think you are amazing! Wishing you a wonderful and peaceful trip!
As Brihinds mentioned above, there are some really great communication devices out there. My friend's son is autistic and non-verbal. He uses a very simple iPad app that actually "speaks" for him. You can google and find many different apps out there. If you have a tablet, you might find the apps especially helpful when traveling alone. Have fun!! :-)

Hi Eden! I'd be most grateful if you can find out the name of that APP for me! Pretty much I use my little note pad which is great, but the iPad might be a lot easier, depending on how the App works

    Hi Melissa,

I just asked my friend and she said they use two different apps for their iPad: Proloquo2Go ($189.99) and iCommunicate ($29.99). She also mentioned that there is a good free app called: SoundingBoard (from iTunes only), but it does not do "text to speech". It basically allows you to create custom communication boards that you can point to instead of speaking. Maybe you could try that one first since it's free. It works on both the iPhone and iPad. You can also go on YouTube, search for each app, and then watch demos of how they work. There are many other similar apps for both iPads and android tablets, so you can google, "text to speech" apps to find others if those do not fit your needs. I hope that helps! Good luck!
