    Question Sav la Mar

Looking to take a run to Sav to take a look around...is there anything we should see/do/eat in particular? Also I'd like to know if there is a market and which day might be best to attend....any suggestions? Thanks!

We love the market. I believe Friday and Saturday are the best. Right near the market is the Easy Spice store whe you can buy spices by the pound in heavy plastic for transport back home. I don't think they are open on Saturday.

I take a route taxi but if this is your first visit, I recommend hiring a driver to take you and show you around or going with a local friend. Depending on the day, it can be very overwhelming trying to navigate downtown on your own. Sav, on market days, gets very busy. Saturday is when they have the most vendors. The market is huge and you can find a variety of fresh produce at great prices. And the many stores across the street carry household goods and clothing. You can also get tons of music while there.

My additional 2-cents…It’s a local community so very few tourists go there. sooooo you don’t “blend in” you will be noticed.

    hello nicollet,

I have been living in Sav for the last 3 years and love it! As someone said, there aren't a lot of tourists that visit so I as a 'white' Canadian woman don't blend in, but I certainly don't feel any 'bad' vibes about that! In fact, I get a lot less hassled in Sav than I do in Negril....

The best time for the market in Sav is Friday or Saturday, early morning.... I'd walk up and down and visit the little shops, some great deals and most of the shop keepers and staff are very friendly.

Not a lot more to do in Sav other than the market and visiting the little shops.... enjoy!

St. Anthony's - as you head out of town there is a little pastry/patty shop (painted pink and blue I believe) sort of next to a little shop that had bunches of old refrigerators stacked outside - this was on the street where the traffic light is as you'd head out of town towards Ferris Cross. Does this place have a name? I always recommend it to people who would pass by on their way to outings or whatever, as hands down, to me, they have THE BEST patties on the island. Anywhere. I could eat their spicy veg patties every day, multiple times a day and never get tired of them. Their sweet potato "pudding" slices are killer too! Oh would I love to have some of their patties now!!

This is great...exactly what I was looking for. i have no problem not "blending", in fact I savour those times when the "same old" is a little different. Thanks for the info and the tip on Easy Spice, we'll be going there for sure!
