Unless going roadside or on an adventure, you don't need ANY

It is nice to have two pairs of inexpensive flip flops, though one pair would certainly do. I use one "less sandy" pair to wear to the cliffs, the other I sometimes wear at night when I'm walking up the beach in the dark to go to dinner. Mostly, I go barefoot most of the time. Wear ankle boots on the plane.

Somebody posted here a while back that it's not the packing list before you leave, it's the UNPACKING list that counts. Take whatever this trip, but when you get back home, unpack and make a list of what you took, what you used, what you didn't use. And be brutal on the next trip about NOT taking what you didn't use last trip. It's working for me - 1 kg at a time! Every kg counts!

That said, I take 2 flip flops - my faves which are totally useless if they get wet - how good is that for the beach, eh? - but they're so comfy! (made out of yoga mats - but you can't get them wet.) And an all purpose pair that go with everything! Seriously, they're flip flops! Are we actually talking about matching the ensemble? We're off to the capital of casual ... let's keep it that way! You know?

Boys have it easy. No matter how long, they can survive on 3 pairs of underwear (they don't have to factor in bras ...). Mon, Tues, Wed - turn them inside out - Thur, Fri, Sat. Sun, go commando while you rinse them in relatively clean water .... repeat!

And ask Irie Andy about his trip to a fancy pants AI and what he did for "pants" at the AI "dress for dinner" resto! It puts it all in perspective!

I like tennis shoes, especially for the airport and also for riding a scooter, plus TW0 pairs of sandals. Last time, I went with deck shoes instead of sneakers, and it worked out, though I wish i had a more stable pair of shoes for the departure cause there was a LONG wait at the Delta terminal. NEVER fly Delta if you can help it, folks.

"UNPACKING list that counts"? I've been home almost two weeks and haven't entirely unpacked--the suitcase sits on the floor, a souvenir of the trip.

I've learned not to bring too many shoes I won't wear. That said, two years ago I was walking back to Catcha from three dives and stepped in a hole along the road. Twisted my ankle, broke my sandal and fell right into the path of an oncoming red plate. Thankfully the driver saw it as it happened and stopped, jumped out and insisted on driving us to the hotel. Moral of the story: have a backup pair of sandals in case you need them! (And the good fortune of a quick-thinking driver!)

Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to try to remember the "less is more" theory while packing. If it doesn't work, I've decided I will hijack some space in either my hubby or son's suitcase!

Great idea about making a list after returning home.
