Daughter and friends cruising to Falmouth

We did a family cruise last year and went to a beach/bar called time and place. Definitely not Negril.
Chairs were hard and way too much junk in the water. If that was my first taste of Jamaica I probably would not go back. We walked the beach and made our way down to red stripe beach. Guess we actually snuck in as we did not have to pay though we did eat and drink. Unless someone had a better idea they will probably pay the exorbitant fee to royal carribean just to get on the beach Unfortunately there is not enuff time to go to negril and it seems like the ocho trip would end up with more time in the car than out. Suggestions anyone?

thats too bad because a trip to Negril will give you a re-newed interest in Jamaica. The problem with cruises is they stop at crusie ship ports not always the best places to get a good impression of the place nor do you really have enough time to really learn the culture. Next time forget the cruise and head to Negril. You won't regret it and by all means , do not stay at an AI. If on the beach ther are many smaller places to stay and reasonbly priced. Also the west end on the cliffs in Negril is also very nice. I do warn you tho. Once there you ill become addicted like the rest of us lol

Shaggy,I love negril have been more than 50 trips. I was just saying if my first experience with Jamaica was Falmouth I would have said Jamaica was just ok

North shore can't compare with Negril for calm water and great beaches.

Have been to Falmouth a couple of times. Time N Place is a great place, but very different from Negril, of course. "Rustic" is one word I guess you could use to describe it. I always thought it was a slice of past times. Perhaps what Negril might have been like in the 70s.

Spanky, Falmouth is a toilet, get them on a trip out of town ASAP.

My suggestion...hire a private driver to pick them up/get them out before the buses. Go to the Martha Brae river (maybe for a rafting trip, this place is all nice and romantic and stuff...cost $$ but they give red plate drivers $ for bringing people....if my memory is correct about $15 back to the driver. Then a driver can take them to a beach that is not crowded with boat people. All sorts of neat stuff in the area and away from that abortion of a Disney World in JA called Falmouth.

Trips up to the Cockpits (not far past the Martha Brae) can be done in tour ship times as well. Seeing a country without seeing the concrete jungle would be nice if they are into that type of stuff.

these guys do some interesting tours.. and don't be afraid to ask them for other suggestions in addition to the culinary tours.. they are courteous,intelligent folks

Time n Place is a regular stop for me, but its real rustic, and not always tourist friendly? There is a couple places I can think of, one is Jacob Taylor beach in Duncan,s Bay real nice unspoiled beach Leroy,s bar, Julets cookshop, and some wood carving shops.
In the other direction the Chill Out Hut, is a great spot to eat and drink on sort of a rocky beach, its in Greenwood, but not too far from Falmouth.

I second The Chill Out Hut really good food plus the beach is adequit(?) enough to spend a few hours at they have change rooms and showers and a few nice sun beds to lounge on.
