We got an excellent deal for 12 nights in a Superior room with kitchenette.
The room itself was modernish. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was clean and decorated with modern curtains and bedding. We stayed next door at Shileds in January and their stuff looked like it was left over from the 80s.
There was a 30 inch flatscreen in the room which had about 60 channels. Major news networks from UK, Canada, USA. Local news out of Miami (CBS, Fox, ABC, NBC) Then your typical basic cable channels from back home.
The beds are not all that comfortable, but where are they all that comfortable in Negril, without going AI?
The AC worked, but it wasnt ice cold. The room was comfortable at night to sleep in with a light blanket or a sheet.
Kitchen was equipped with fridge, a microwave, 2 burners. pots pans plates sink. We didnt use it as much as we thought we would, but we did save some money a few mornings by making our own breakfast. Not sure if we will go this route again, because we just didnt spend enough time in the room.
The grounds are extremely well kept. Very clean. Everything is trimmed and pruned.
The pool was awesome. We never ever spent time in a pool while in negril before. Aside from a few hours at catcha. The pool is a good size. Has a swimup bar. The prices at the bar were OK not great... But we brought some JB out to the pool and they happily sold us pepsi with ice and we made our own drinks. (a little tip to the bartender goes a long way).
The food at the hotel was pretty good. Lunch and dinner was fairly priced. Breakfast buffet was outrageously priced. Like 30 bucks for 2 people after tip. We only did that once.
The management and staff were awesome. One of the sons that helps with management of the hotel noticed us out one night and came up and introduced himself as he had seen us at the hotel. We thought that was a nice gesture.
There is entertainment several nights a week. Karaoke 2 nights a week... But it's not typical back home stuff. Lots of locals there singing... AND THEY WERE GOOD if not GREAT singers for the most part. Even Luddy Samms made an appearance at travellers one night. Who by the way is an extraordinarily nice gentleman, and so is his step son... whom I watched a soccer match with at Natural Mystic bar one afternoon.
The beach isn't very wide, but the only higglers on that end were the fruit ladies and a few musicians. Otherwise no hassle and the security made sure they went on their way if the answer was no. There was great shade provided by the sea grapes. I prefer the part of the beach with all of my favorite bars (Sunnyside, sun beach, tonys etc) but this wasn't bad. Short walk to town, and the lower west end and to red ground.
This place is definitely on the radar for us to return to. Which is remarkable, because we havent repeated anywhere yet.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is on a 100 dollar a night or less budget.
