When I first heard I thought yeah, that would be an attraction. A worthy day trip say, you want to go to Mobay or Ochi for a day. Seeing the island from the water, yeah I would try it. How long (time) is the ride from point to point? Sounds kind of like Club Mobay all the way to Negril. They should link up.

Marko well said and well funny.
    Just what I was thinking,

Too much hassle if you ask me for this to be viable for getting to negril.
Do you reckon they will reinstate the old jetty near corner bar. Crazy!

My first thought was the high speed ferries between Isla Mujeres and Cancun, which are pretty cool by the way. They have a musician playing some music and the water is absolutely gorgeous. However, it is a 20 minute ride and the water is relatively smooth. Curious how long this ride would take? Maybe the drinks included will drum up some business.

Still content with my driver and the joy he brings when I see his smiling face and get filled in Whaagwaan.

40 knots is the speed they said in The Observer article. I do not know how fast that is. Supposedly will go between Mo Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios and than adding Kingston and several more ports. Capacity 300.

Just not feeling it. Fly to Mobay, jump in ground transportation and go to Negril. Don't believe I want additional costs, transfers, and time when going to Negril and back. Soon come factor will apply. And when will we see the first headline about ferry hits fisherman or parasail boat. Jamaica is wrestling with the jet ski issue now and they are worried about the beaches and reefs?

It's about 45 mph, but somewhat dependent on current and tides.

Booger..those were my thoughts exactly..The ferry between Cancun and Isla is very nice..with the music playing and all..But, of course, in order to get there..you NEED to take that ferry..I am still a Negril newbie but I am seeing this as a pleasure ferry..just to get a different perspective of Negril...I would be willing to use it in that capacity!

No way in hell per the recent ferry situations would I go below surface. I come to Jamaica for the ocean and the water , the water is where I prefer to spend all my time, in it, on it in boats and sleeping with the sound of it. Now with the exception if this took longer to get to these destinations I would do it as a transfer between Negril-Ochi as I have more free time. I love the view from the water.
Lisa wrote the ferry will cost $30-m(illion) US, that is the investment to build it, no estimates on trip costs yet
