June is the close of the school year in Negril, although it may drag into June farther than most other places. It is a perfect time to be thinking about sponsoring a child to attend school. The parents of Negril children have to pay to send their kids to school and a lot of these parents do not have the means to do so. Here is where we can help.
For less than the cost of airfare for most, you can sponsor a child to attend school and get some structure in their lives. Mi Lady and I are sponsoring Ricardo, the restless 8 year old young man in the picture below. His sister, Rihanna, is 5 or 6 and has recently been sponsored by a fellow boardie on Negril.com. We have now been able to spend a little time with Ricardo and Rihanna and they are just the greatest kids!
So, open your hearts and contact Fadda Jimaica (Father Jim) of Mary Gate of Heaven church. You can PM on the board through St. Anthony's Kitchen boardie page. He will be able to give you all the current particulars. The donation is even tax deductible in both the US and Canada if you donated through the Franciscans.
Fadda Jimaica will be able to guide you to a child in need and enable you to give back to the country that we all love. If you can't afford to sponsor, at least think about making a donation to the Get Kids To School program in Negril.
