Just got back last week from Negril and stopped at Bigga's in Green Isle on the way to Negril. The jerk chicken was the best I have ever had in Jamaica but the prices were way too HIGH. $24.00 for 1//4 chicken and 1 red stripe and 1 guiness. No prices posted he just seems to determine the prices at what he thinks he can get from you. I guess we were an easy target and raved about the chicken too much. So ask prices first then order. Enjoy

Biggs at Green Island is a hard one to top. Every time I am there it is busy with mostly Jamaican customers and I seemed to pay what they paid? I would pay almost any price for his conch soup! My other favorite stop is Hopewell. I don't even know the reasons, I just really like Hopewell. The ladies at the busy grocery make really great patties and have very cold beer. Right down the road is Life Styles bar. I also don't know why I like Life Styles. They seem very unimpressed with tourists and prefer folks from Hopewell. Maybe I like it because of geography. On the way in, it is a quick ride to get your first taste. On the way out, it is the last oasis and needs to be savored. Somehow I get the feeling that folks in Hopewell enjoy a good standard of living and are proud of it.
Mattmon, I'm a Hopewell fan too. My first stop is always at the bakery right at the T-junction. Though they don't have jerk chicken, you can't beat putting together a "to go" lunch of a couple of pieces of their crispy, non greasy fried chicken and a fresh hot loaf of bread. A cold Guinness, some fruit from the fruit ladies outside - by the time I get another half hour down the road I'm full, fat and happy. On the way back to the airport, I have the driver swing up the road to the right at the T-Junction - about a half block up the road on the right hand side is a little cookshop (probably has a name but I never paid attention to it) - no matter what time of day, there is always a goodly amount of people inside to pick up orders. Have never been disappointed in whatever was "ready" in the kitchen and their box food prices are less than anything I've ever found in Negril. I can munch away on the still hot and fresh food once I've checked in my bags and maybe be one of the few with a smile on my face at the departure terminal.
Bigga's fan here, sounds like you got ripped off rosalie. 1/4 chicken should be about $5-6. He does charge too much for beer IMO, but still should be no more than $5 each.
