Be Well, Jamb!
Be Well, Jamb!
Good morning everyone, I thought i was the only one cursed to have something go wrong close to my anticipated trip to paradise. 2 years ago on Canadian thanksgiving early in the am i woke up out of a weird dream and my neck/head snapped quickly disloding a crystal in my inner ear this started my adventures with vertigo. I was so freaked out i called for the ambulance to come get me, after spending 4 hrs in the ER with the slightest movement causing the room to spin they sent me home. After 24 hrs i was back to 90% ,I still get the occasional episode but nothing like that first day. Last trip in Dec. again 3 weeks before I notice this tingleing sensation on my left shoulder and the under side of my left arm just doesn't feel right so the next day whilst in the shower the water hitting on the left shoulder is like fire so i have hubby look at it he says it looks like a rash with blisters on it. So i decide to get my medical degree from the internet and i look up bedbug bites, rashes, shingles, the next day i went to the doctor and he said i had shingles but it was caught in time and the meds made it better before we left. On this last trip I rolled my ankle while in jamaica 2 weeks before coming home. just found out 3 weeks ago from an xray done 4 weeks ago that my foot was fractured and that i had been walking on it for 3 1/2 months without knowing. It still hurts. I would say just go Jamaica makes everything better. Hopefully you and no worries can meet up and commiserate together.
In addition to the two things mentioned above, I have also had a dental implant come completely out of my jaw in Jamaica and on another trip, I tore a HUGE chunk out of the bottom of my foot from walking too fast barefoot on a jagged piece of sidewalk. (I was afraid I was going to miss getting a sunset picture)
My wife swears I'm an accident waiting to happen when we are in Jamaica.

This past Feb. I started with a earache, thought it would go away until three days before I went to the emergency room and was prescribed the Z-pac for five days. Felt better on the day leaving and the first full day off the z-pac. Until the day after, the ear started again! I was so in pain that I could not put my hearing aid in the ear (thankfully I had the other ear/hearing aid) so went to see friends who were working at the TreeHouse (we were staying at Cocolapalm) - they suggested I go to the Pharmacy by Burger King - so we did and the Pharmacist was able to prescribe another 5 day z-pack - I went the rest of the week with one hearing aid but the ear did feel better the day we were to leave so I was able to put the hearing aid back in. Next time I am prescribed a z-pac, I am going to go for the full 10 days! Lesson learned!
I had a tooth crack and had to have it pulled 2 days before I left for my last reach... was fine once I got off the plane!
I always carry a bottle of liquid Benadryl and the pills. The liquid works faster in an acute allergy attack. And you can ask your doctor to recommend or prescribe a non-drowsy type of antihistamine if the Benadryl knocks you out. But they will dry you out, so drink lots of water (sorry, but I wouldn't recommend alcohol while on these). Not recommended by the medical profession, but I take the pills at night if needed, and a booster short shot of the liquid during the day and don't feel so whacked out.
Since you've just had a reaction, I would suggest you use non-perfumed stuff (body wash, shampoo, laundry detergent, etcl) as you skin may be but hyper sensitive. At least, that's my own experience. We're all different. Have a super trip. I have had hayfever since I was a kid, and got reactions to sitting on the grass. I have never, ever had any problems in Jamaica. Maybe they have hypoallergenic flora!?![]()
I was sick one year the day before my flight. Was told they might not let me on plane if they see how bad i was coughing and running fever. Took airborne when plane hit Cuba I was fine for the rest of the trip.
Jambarney did you make it there? If you did hope you got to feeling better.
