    Smart Phones in Negril

I plan on bringing my phone because I have my whole song library on there.

Is having a smart phone down there going to cause any problems like unintended charges for default data loading?

Turn it to airplane mode, with wifi on and data off and you'll be ok.

be careful with those unintended charges.

Many a visitor has gotten home to find a very large roaming bill.

Use airplane mode at all times.

I was just there a week back, and got a local digicel sim card and a 1 week - 1GB data plan, for about $22. They were a bit shaky on the config, so they sent me to the local PC shop which cost me extra.

The PC trip was probably not required, may have even been a scam. No big deal...

Real nice to have the data plan as internet at the hotel was atrocious. Also nice to have the local number for my fav. cabbies.

Air conditioned at Digicel, so that was good too, lol.

This last trip, I thought I had my data turned off and was using wifi. Turns out I screwed up somehow and that was only off half the time. That was a $130 oops.

T-Mobile customers get free unlimited texting and data, and calls are .20 per minute within JA and back to the USA. If you're already a customer just call into Customer Care or stop in a store to make sure your account is set up for it, there is no extra charge. No need to worry about airplane mode and finding a wifi hotspot...

Yes, I work for T-Mobile, I am not trying to sell anyone anything, but if you have questions feel free to PM me.
