    Question Negril in September

Hello, just joined. Taking our 5th trip to Jamaica in September and arriving on my 50th birthday to an all-inclusive. Would like to walk the beach and stop at some bars and gift shops along the way. Have stayed in Montego Bay, Ochos Rios, Negril & Whitehouse. If I change 100 US at the airport, will that be sufficient for enough Red Stripes & rum punches between Bloody Bay & the Grand Pineapple?

Never change money at the airport. About 25% loss. Use your US$ on the beach or get yourself to a cambio. Lots of happy hours and 2/1 specials along the way.

That depends... For how many people, and how long?

Expect to pay from $3 to $5 for a Red Stripe, as much as $6 for a rum punch... many places have 2 for 1 specials and/or happy hours where you'll get a better deal.

$3-5 for a Red Stripe? Rick's and Margaritaville, sure, but most places along the beach are reasonable. We found them all over for $150j.

I meant to say $2 to $5, but also want to point out there are LOTS of places on the beach that charge more than $2... I seem to remember paying around $4 for a Red Stripe at Tree House, and at others...

They also sometimes get funny with the money conversion... I think I remember paying $150 JA for a beer one day, but at the same place when I had $USD it was $2... not something I let bother me on vacation but it happens... And now that it's approx. $110JA per $1 USD it's an even worse deal using US $$$.

2 for 1 is not always 2 for 1. At least one place talked about on this forum raises their prices each day so you get 2 drinks for an inflated price. Still....the 2 for 1's are worth partaking in.....add in places that sell the 150J beers.....maybe an overpriced one at Buffet's place if you want to use their water trampolines....prolly could slide in and use them for free but they have clean bathrooms so the guilt might get the better of you....or hopefully not.
