Well, I can certainly see why this girl doesn't think it's callous.
Also...ripe old age of 26?
Should no one over 40 go to Negril since heart attacks can happen? My problem isn't lack of emergency care. I understand that. But to me it's the negligence at Ricks.
It is called assumption of the risk and this poor fellow assumed it. How horrible for his family. I read the comments from the article Tizzy provided and the MD who stated onlookers were told he was just drunk, etc. I hate to speak on things I know little facts about, but what he attempted and what resulted from that attempt show he was not an experienced diver, or if he was- perhaps too impaired to execute the dive. As far as critical comments about Ricks- and how an ambulance should have been quicker, etc. There are Jamaicans who live there and know immediate medical care is non-existent to them in life threatening situation, let alone tourists who "place" themselves in life threatening situations demanding some type of extraordinary care. I must say I agree Accompong entirely.
Sad thing.
Whoever is at fault, a place like Ricks that rakes in money hand over fist should be prepared for something like this. Based on the comments, it didnt seem like they were.
By prepared, I mean a trained staff ready for an emergency. The proper equipment to handle trauma. The trained staff should be drilled regularly etc.
Maybe they are. Who knows.
Just my thoughts.

We as good human beings should offer our love and support to those who lost their loved ones..certainly is not a good time to judge or question the deceased..it doesn't change anything..most of us have known people who have died unfortunate deaths through many means..their family needs love and support..if it happened to one of us..we would want the same..
This whole situation makes me so sad. My heart goes out to the family of this young man. I am sure that he and his friends/family were having the time of their lives right before this tradegy. I am also sure, that ALL of us have made many judgement errors in our lifes. Let's not be so quick to point fingers.
I absolutely LOVE Negril and feel like it is my second home. I don't want it to change a bit, BUT......when things like this happen, I can't help but think that maybe (and I can't believe that I am saying this) a FEW regulations or checks and balances might be needed. Again, I always say that the fact that there are few rules, signs etc.. in Negril is why I like it so much. (unlike my sign and regulation filled country that I live in, which BTW I also love). I am afraid there is no "right" answer. I will continue to pray for this family.
I say let's cut off this thread. I would hope we are all sad this happened. Like any accident the victim would wish he had a chance to rethink a decision. Sometimes an e mail sounds callous while in person it would not . We don.t want to offend any family or friends
Tragic loss for family ! I agree Rick's should have a plan for accidents with all the money that place makes. What about the ambulance ?
