    Re: Cliff jumping death

A tragic loss of a young fellow Canadian. My condolences to his family and friends.

What if Ricks stopped people from jumping? Do you think that would kill their profit margin? Is the appeal to go to Ricks so you can jump or to view the divers, watch sunset and eat and drink?

A friend of our family dove from a pontoon boat into a Wisconsin Lake where he had been diving for most of his 30 years - sadly that dive ended in tragedy also. My condolences to the family and friends and my prayers to them and also to those who fail to respect those who suffer such tragedies and realize that it could just as easily be them walking in those mournful shoes.

    What the Captain said.
I remember my first visit to Negril in Feb. 1998. I was part of the management team that sent a group of listeners to our radio station's big contest destination. A week in Negril at Mariners (Negril Escape).
One of the prize winners ended up with very bad bruising from ankle to her butt after jumping at Rick's.
It wasn't pretty and it ruined her vacation.
People need to think before they leap.

It seems to me that the high dive platform at Rick's is just an invitation for disaster. Obviously, many people are being injured and worse. So why not close the highest dive platform and make another one at maybe half the height of the current one?

People could still jump, but much more safely, and the 'Rick's Vibe' would not be affected.

Is that too simple a solution? Why invite tragedy by providing a high dive platform? People get drunk at Rick's and with that comes impaired judgment (most of us can relate to that). If there is a high dive platform, people who shouldn't be jumping from it will jump - guaranteed.

I say close off the high platform and build another one at half the height. Save injuries and ruined lives.

motorcycles are an invitation for disaster.... so we all shouldn't be able to ride them, because of a few? drinking alcohol is an invitation for disaster.... so we all shouldn't be able to drink because of a few?
