Well, booger.... Something I can agree on that you said. Except by posting this, you are trying to start a "pissing match" and I have always believed you don't get into one with a skunk. BTW, I am not calling you a skunk just using a colloquialism when the term "pissing" is used.
It seems that whenever someone posts a story about Jamaican matters a whole bunch of tourists have opinions. Opinions are good to have if they are informed opinions. I would venture to guess that most of the readers of this story don't know who Michael Manley was (except for a boulevard being named for him) or of how he encouraged the capture of lands.
You can go to someplace and know all about the bars, restaurants, subs, etc. and know little or nothing about Jamaican Culture or her History.
I don't speak for anyone but myself and I don't give a rat's behind if someone thinks I am not sensitive or politically correct in how I express myself.
I enjoy reading of people's experiences in Negril and offer help if asked but, frankly, I don't care about trip reports extolling drunkenness and losing one's self control on their vacation so I don't read many of them. I prefer reports about getting out of Negril and enjoying Jamaica's rich beauty and culture.
It happens from time to time that a clique of tourists develops from first reading this board and then spending time together in Negril socially. This is a good thing and helps local businesses and other readers to enjoy vicariously a new experience they might like to experience on their next trip. The only negative thing is the pack mentality that develops here that fires on all cylinders wherever one of the members of that pack sinks their teeth into a topic.
I have sat down with Rob a few times and reasoned. We don't always see "eye to eye" on everything but I Respect and consider anything he has to offer on any subject that is Jamaica related. His opinion is an "informed" opinion developed and honed by actually living in Jamaica and experiencing the culture outside of the Negril echo chamber.
We are under no illusions on what Negril.com is meant to be and although links to Jamaican matters get posted when someone stumbles upon them, not all of them are exactly what they seem to be about when you don't know the backround from a Jamaican's point of view and personal experience.
