Thanks TizzyATX,
Actually, I don't know much about you and your exploits in Negril as those are the type of reports I avoid as I mentioned earlier. I don't need to prove anything to anyone here. Yes, I do spend probably more time than I should combing through this Message Board looking for a few good reports with good pictures but since I was traveling to Jamaica before you were born and cameras were not so good, seeing pictures brings back a lot of good memories. You probably look at my writing as condescending but I prefer to just write how I feel and I don't feel at all unfavorable about your style of travel to Negril. I am happy to see you spending your money in Jamaica and helping a struggling economy. It makes things better for me when I return home as more of your and other's money finally does trickle down to Jamaicans in my hometown.
Funny you mention having an issue with being a tourist. The people in my hometown of Accompong Town often flatter me by calling me "A Jamaican" and a "Maroon". It makes me feel good about what I do and what I have experienced along the way. I spend most of my time in Jamaica helping the people and especially the children of my adopted hometown but I never lose sight of the fact that I will always be a "tourist". A "good tourist" by most people's estimation but nevertheless a "tourist". The amount of time you spend in Jamaica or the number of trips will never actually change that.
I have met a few fellow travelers that frequent these boards over the years and have some lasting friendships with a few but I am a loner by inclination and would not be a good drinking buddy (as I don't drink except a beer or two a year) or a party animal (as I have given most of that up many, many years ago).
You will probably find it frustrating to try to get me to angrily respond to your attempts at pseudo-"educating me" on how I should act and where I should do it just as much as I would find it frustrating to try to "educate" you on the Jamaica that lies beyond the party trail in Negril. All I can say is, "Party On!" Whoo! Whoo!
BTW, those Forum Links are to places that I regularly visit and many where I have lived over the years.
