Thank you farmer for taking the time and telling us this unfortunate story-that thank goodness turned out ok....I've heard Roylae medical in Sav (which is a private place) is not too bad (though i dont think they have ER services-i could be wrong) but Sav hospital-no way for me or my loved ones-will always request to be taken to Montego bay..

I too would also like just some basic info on which ambulance servie negril...I'm not currently in Jam so I'm not going to be calling long distance to all these diff.places..I would hope someone that is there could just provide some BASIC and APROXIMATE info...for ambulance service........

That seems basic as it was just the ride and no real treatments other than standard oxygen were provided and it is not an approximate but exact price. Even states that it was paid in advance. Will any treatment such as a defibrillator be used, will bandages, splints, drugs, supplies or other services be rendered? All this may effect the cost.
And as licensed medical EMTs, I am sure they would want to take you to the what they would consider the most timely option. If the emergency is bad enough, there may not be time to reach MoBay because in emergency situations, time is usually of the essence.
In many cases, the victim is unconscious and cannot make that decision for themselves, such as a car accident or head trauma from a high fall down a set of stairs.
So, what do you consider to be a basic emergency that you would need an ambulance (and not a private taxi as Accompong used) to go to MoBay and not Sav and be able to let the EMTs know that you want to go to MoBay and not Sav and in the EMT's judgement the emergency is not bad enough that there is adequate time to get you to MoBay?
Please provide that information and I will call a service for you and get a price for that basic emergency since you do not want to spend the money to call long distance on this deadly serious important matter and that is something you are spending much time writing about both here and on TA.
Or perhaps you would want to use the free overseas 800 number (US and Canada) that some of the companies provide.
Here is one for LifeLine Medical Response in the Jamaica Yellow Pages - 1-800-543-3759. They have been great to deal with so far and look forward to getting more informations from them this week as I have mentioned.
But in the meantime, please feel FREE to call them with your basic emergency to MoBay as it is free - no cost to you. And as I have mentioned several of the companies also offer air-ambulance as this one does.
Please let me know if you still want me to call them for you but please provide me with the details of your basic emergency to MoBay so I can explain it to them adequately and get you an approximate price.

yes ,your correct Farmer did give basic info on private ambulance to Sav.. a 5 min repsonse time (which is excellent) and $50. up front being paid...which I think is a great rate..
I was just hoping to get the same aprox. info if one was to be transferred to a Montego Bay area hospital..I wasnt asking for particulars, or specifics-it seems the companies you've contacted are working on that...

But suzengrace has been expecting/demanding this exact information you say no one is expecting us to provide. She is demanding that we post the company names and contacts, the services they each provide, each of their response times, each of their costs to both MoBay and Sav and what form of payment they all accept. To quote her: we "should be providing the basic info in regards to the ambulances THAT do service Negril and what they're aprox. costs are to Mobay and Sav (god forbid) and what form of payment they take-as well as expected response times and method of payment."
She even posted about searching the online Jamiaca Yellow Pages and found several companies that service Negril. She could have posted their phone numbers had that been all she wanted. She ended that post with "Again, I would hope that Rob-who lives in Negril would be able to provide the info I listed up on top..."
As you can see, she is once again telling us to provide all that information mentioned above and not just phone numbers. Because of her demands, that would take much longer than if we were to provide the names and contact numbers. She already has these contacts from the Jamaican Yellow Pages and continued to ask for more information.
But Melody - because of your and now suzengrace's 180 as well as what I would assume are other's desire to get the contact information as soon as possible and would follow it up for themselves, I will curtail the process of compiling that list of costs, response times, services provided and method of payment and simply post the companies and contact information as you desire.
We are working with major stakeholders in Negril to address this issue for Negril and the surrounding areas and should hopefully have some great news later this week. We feel our time is much better spent that way, helping to create a real solution.

I will continue to choose Negril over any other destination as long as I feel comfortable enough to travel in my advancing years.
I would rather be in Jamaica than anywhere else.
There are licensed medical doctors in Negril and throughout the Parishes.
In dire emergencies I want to be driven to the closest hospital and that would be Sav La Mar.
As far as medical insurance goes; I travel without it.
It's not cheap for people with blood pressure, diabetes, heart irregularities, or other increasingly common issues for people of 'a certain age'.
We've seen numerous issues in the media of people who buy travel insurance and are denied payment because of some 'pre-existing' medical issue that they forgot about or didn't know mattered on their insurance application. In fact, I think denials outweigh payouts by more than 60 percent. Don't quote me on that thought; I'm just relying on my increasingly bad (short term) memory. Puff puff, pass pass.
Surprised that this topic has not been addressed before. This board has been around for roughly 20 years and it's not like medical care in Negril is a new issue.
Glad Suzengrace is so demanding. I feel a little safer knowing I have options. Than again, I feel it is important to stay at reputable places that will ensure you are taking care of to the best of their ability. Chris and his defibrillator are comforting with a stay at Seastar.
