    Re: Negril Ambulance

I had a medical scare this past trip, which caused me to think further about what i would do if i needed medical assistance as i do have some serious medical conditions and i stay long term. 1st I always have travel insurance with a large medivac policy, i would want to be able to get off the island asap. I have the numbers for the public and private ambulance in my phone. i need to wear my medic alert bracelet while out. It has all my info on a flashdrive ordered it online checkout amazon. I need to share my medical info along with emergency contacts with the place i stay. I plan to make an appointment with Dr Grant so that she mets me and knows who I am, just in case. Now my only concern is what hospital i would go to. I've seen a hospital in sav and would not want to go there if possible but i may not have a choice. I have had a vacation interrupted by illness and surgery fortunately it was Puerto rico. Best to be prepared as much as you can for what if moments.

I would ask Dr Grant what hospital to visit.

My biggest fear is that I would not be in a position to express my wishes. I know where i would Not like to go but might not have an option.

Thanks for sharing - makes me think, staying solo, I should leave my emergency #s at the front desk, as well as my insurance provider phone # etc. I've been trying new places and will be at 3 new ones next trip. I wonder if they'd take my request to keep my emergency info seriously so it would be quickly/easily found by staff members on duty?

I travel solo also and I spoke with the condo manager who asked that i share my info with them. I'm sure that they could keep your info with your hotel registration. My wish is that all hotel operators are more aware of the need to be prepared for medical emergencies with the increase in reported medical concerns and the push for a hospital.

Speaking of insurance, if you have Blue cross/Bluesheild, your insurance can travel with you internationally. You must set this up before you leave. Be prepared to pay your bill and then be reimbursed, in a covered country...
