    Sav La Mar market question

We have gone to Negril for years now and never visited the market in Sav la Mar. I've heard a lot about it. Can someone give me an idea when the best time to go would be? What do they sell there, etc. Also, my wife and I would be going there with our 7 year of kids. Although I know one can't vouch for all Jamaicans like I can't vouch for my fellow Americans, is it relatively safe to go there? Anything to be careful of, etc. I imagine we will stick out like like beacons in the night. Thank you.

Saturday is the big market day.

My suggestion would be to hire a driver to take you there and escort you around.

    Here's my son's website. He's a transportation sponsor here at negril.com

Great place the spice place is- my husband brought back some bulk spices when he was there last month. So good and fresh ground!

We took our kids when they were 6 & 8 or about that, with a driver which was great. Don't wear loose gold jewelry and minimize or eliminate purses etc unless they worn close to your body and in front where you can see them always. Deep pockets or nothing in them. Markets are WONDERFUL, you will see everything for sale there. My favorite Sav market memory was the driver striding through calling Limes Limes Limes until one of the vendors responded they had some. This is also where I figured out the small piles of trash are not laziness or dirtyness, that is where trash is collected to be cleaned up at the end of the day!

    Couple of things:
I believe the Easy Spice store is closed on Saturday.
Ask before taking photos of people. We usually buy some fruit and then ask for a photo.

I've gone on Friday by myself walked up every aisle. without any problems take small bills and a grocery bag for purchases. While you're there go to Bashco as well it's just up the road they have everything you could want non food related. If your going to hire a driver make a stop at the Blue hole Mineral spring on the way back. to make it worth it.
