    Jaherring,

I know the feeling too being an American and visiting Jamaica for a good decade before moving here. But with understanding, I came to realize the problem was more with my preconceived perceptions as opposed to anything Jamaicans were actively doing against Americans....

Also, being an American, we do cherish democracy. Democracy means that the majority rules, that the majority makes the correct decision. If you feel you are "far outnumbered here", then what is that telling you?

Americans, Germans, Canadians, Martians... whatever. The beach vendors are equally annoying to all vacationers and surely must hurt your return visitor rate. I didn't intend to single out Americans.

They wouldn't bother me if they would leave someone alone who obviously doesn't want to be bothered. Waking people up sleeping in a beach chair to try to sell them something is crossing the line. Demanding "respect," wanting to do that silly fist bump thing and chasing after me to ask me what I need when I have already politely said NO and kept walking is crossing the line.

It's just someones point of view on circumstances that this individual has encountered.
So what is wrong with that? It is their opinion, don't ridicule them... If something negative is said about Negril, you come crawling out of the sand!!
I have been travelling to Jamaica for a long time and there are some valid points in the posters viewpoint.
So let it be. The poster has stated what he feels. Some of you stated , stay an an AI,,,,who is the ignorant one here !!
Are you gonna riddicule me because I have stayed at an AI on many occasions. Couples Ocho Rios and Negril , Grand Lido Braco. I know the names have changed.. Are you gonna rip me, because I stay at a villa in MBJ for a nite or two before my flight leaves and I can't wait to get out of Negril.... How about, the many trips I have taken where I stayed at
White Sands, Fun Holiday, Blue Cave Castle, Sea Star and Roots Bamboo. Hassled walking the beach,,,you betcha,,,,do I like it,,,sometimes, yes and sometimes , no !!!
Am I offended if a vendor does not like my response to there sales pitch...NO..... Do I want to go to the craft markets,,,,NO......Do I agree with everyone's opinion about Negril ...NO..... Do I spend my money how I want too.....YES.....So let the poster say what he has to say,,,,I respect that......And if some of you perceive it as a negative viewpoint.. Get over it.......Go Gamecocks,,,,,,may you kick ass in the SEC East.....Your Brother from the Big 10....And no, I don't know the poster,,,I just respect what he has to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you dont want to buy from the beach vendors that is fine... totally your decision. But I think it might be a bit harsh to refer to them as scammers and fools. They are vendors and business people and aside from the people selling drugs/prostitution, they are not doing anything illegal and are trying to make a living.

Thank you for saying that, the use of that term bothered me as well.

I don't remind the vendors -- sometimes I buy something, and either way they help me get a feel for market for what everything costs. The beggars I can do without, but Rob has pointed out, they're in the USA, too .... Ya, the vendor can be pushy, but nine of 10 will take no for an answer ....
