Manda...you should have posted here! You perspective was just as important as anyone else & you questioned the content respectfully.
We often forget that on a public forum we are talking to the world...and the world doesn't always understand or agree with us...starting with language and cultural differences.
    No worries!

    Wow............................................... ..........

By NO means, was I referring to Negril Beach as spam, I apologize sincerely if it came across that way!

[QUOTE=Clarity;10687]and say "the beaches of Jamaica are like the internet...full of annoying spam" you might not receive the most favorable response. That certainly did not sit well with me either.

Thank you Lisa... it just seems and I haven't been apart of the board for all that long but I do remember for week reading the threads before joining that people were in much happier spirits maybe it's just that time of year ... everyone must get back to Negril and smile

Ohhh...Manda...then you wouldn't have liked this board a few years back...it was a bit of an un-monitored free-for-all...!
Rob came back to clean it up...and thankfully it's now not the scary, cliquey place it once was.

We are lucky here to have an wonderful and eclectic group of long timers, mid timers and newbies!!!

    CYA SOON!!!

I have not read all the posts, but most of them seem to focus on how to say no or not interested. I have found that a little joking around works for me.
These vendors I believe are very good humored and hear no mon/not interested all day so I chat briefly with all of them as I walk. I figure as tired as you may be of being approached they respond very well to light humor.
A quick joke and “hey where close buy can I get a cold beer…thanks man”. I have said “no smoke” many times, but I don’t think I have uttered “not interested” even once. This may not be everyone’s personality, but my point is there are many many ways to easily deal with vendors without saying no. Have a little damn fun people...your on vacation

For me, it's all part of the experience. When I am approached I tell them no and they leave, I've never experienced vendors who won't take no for an answer and have never been chased or woken up. So, it doesn't really bother me. I'm not in Negril for very long so I just deal with it.

Lapurr - I was just quoting the original poster of this thread in my reference (see first page) , not you! I know you didn't say that I hope you have a great time in Negril in 10 days!

I should really just stay out of these kind of heated discussions. I'm sorry about that misunderstanding!

I have ran into vendors that remember my name from trips before. Jamaicans have great memories! Usually the first couple days the vendors will see me as a new face and there will be a hard sell, but once you've been there a while, they move onto the "newbies," and I can more easily "go with the flow" and get to know some of the vendors more personally as I walk the beach every day. I've met some of the nicest vendors and had some really great conversations. Like someone said, it's all part of the "Negril experience." Some can be obnoxious, like the massage lady, but most are really cool people just trying to make a living.
