    Go Gamecocks

It's just someones point of view on circumstances that this individual has encountered.
So what is wrong with that? It is their opinion, don't ridicule them... If something negative is said about Negril, you come crawling out of the sand!!
I have been travelling to Jamaica for a long time and there are some valid points in the posters viewpoint.
So let it be. The poster has stated what he feels. Some of you stated , stay an an AI,,,,who is the ignorant one here !!
Are you gonna riddicule me because I have stayed at an AI on many occasions. Couples Ocho Rios and Negril , Grand Lido Braco. I know the names have changed.. Are you gonna rip me, because I stay at a villa in MBJ for a nite or two before my flight leaves and I can't wait to get out of Negril.... How about, the many trips I have taken where I stayed at
White Sands, Fun Holiday, Blue Cave Castle, Sea Star and Roots Bamboo. Hassled walking the beach,,,you betcha,,,,do I like it,,,sometimes, yes and sometimes , no !!!
Am I offended if a vendor does not like my response to there sales pitch...NO..... Do I want to go to the craft markets,,,,NO......Do I agree with everyone's opinion about Negril ...NO..... Do I spend my money how I want too.....YES.....So let the poster say what he has to say,,,,I respect that......And if some of you perceive it as a negative viewpoint.. Get over it.......Go Gamecocks,,,,,,may you kick ass in the SEC East.....Your Brother from the Big 10....And no, I don't know the poster,,,I just respect what he has to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

negrilbound - it seems like maybe you read just the first 2-3 pages of replies before posting.

Many people chimed in later with the consensus being that it was not the experiences of the OP that they disagreed with. In fact most people agreed the hagglers can be a problem and offered techniques on dealing with them so they don't affect the vacation.

What many of us objected to was the OP's calling them "scammers" and "fools". Rob's post probably said it best, but also many others explained, that if someone makes a post with such a disparaging tone - it's only natural they will get back replies of a like kind. Posts complaining about hagglers and asking for advice is probably one of the most common topics here. Most times the replies acknowledge that and offer helpful tips. Very few get flamed, unless they start off with the attacking tone like this one did.

Read the entire thread and I think you will agree. If not, no problem - everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Rob said it best, as always! It's a living for a lot them. It means their family eats tonight. 99% will take no for an answer (and if not there is a T-Shirt you can buy - No, I don't want a taxi; No I don't want any ganja - What part of "NO" do you not understand! and for every pushy one, there is usually some other calmer hustler who will watch for a bit and come to your rescue. I don't speak Patois, but I know that guy was telling the other one to back off and not bother the tourists. So next time, as the hustler walks away after your firm, but polite no, thank you - before you nod off on the beach with your rum punch, maybe offer up a prayer to the Diety of your choice and thank him (or her) for the fact that they chose for you tolive in a land of opportunity; say thanks for my job that pays well enough that I can come here to get away; say thanks for the opportunity and job so great that it affords your food every day AND a Jamaican vacation!!!! Stop counting hustlers; start counting blessings.

If you want hustle and bustle and cool bars, great restaurants and a beautiful beach than Yes, Negrils beach is where it's at..But some people just want to chill and not say no thank x 20 day, not worry if their being P.C., not feel forced to buy stuff, not want to figure out or play "the game", not worry about someone else's welfare, not come up with the appropriate no thank you, and not have to wear a certain shirt with a certain saying !!! ..I usually hang out on the cliffs-but when I want to "take a walk on the wild side" I head to the beach..and when I get tired of the shanaingans i stroll up to Long Bay public beach..where the locals tend to go and for $100J I can enjoy the beauty of the of the 7 mile beach in a more natural setting with less higglers( less-tourist area=less higglers) If I want a wonderful meal or drink i walk over to Cosmos next door...
I have respect for the people on the beach trying to make J..I also know they aren't fools (far from that) and yes, some are scammers..I also respect the people who have come to Negril for a vacation (with their hard earned $$ and time).
But to tell someone that if they don't want to deal with it "not to come to Jam".. is not only ridiculous but plain ignorant..There are many other places just as beautiful if not more so where saying no thank you x 20 day is non-existent ..The N.Coast and PA area for sure....

And everyday I wake up I give thanks to Jah/God...

Yes, well said. Like the many people who frequent this board, I've been to Negril a few times in 18 years and keep going back, so it's obviously not a big issue [for me]. There are other parts of the island I have yet to see (Port Antonio), but there is something about Negril that keeps pulling me back. I love it!
