Linston's Zion Hill Taxi
Captain Dave
Port Antonio? Heavens no. I want someone to go to sav la mar, Times Square, craft market and then sit down to lunch with us, probably chicken lavish. Did get a price in PM for Linston, so we are all good. I will probably end up using the same person for dinners out, and the trip back to mobay.
As we draw closer, both the wife and I are really anxious about getting into unknown cars, but I am not sitting behind the wall for 10 days, either.
Anyway, thanks for input, appreciated.
As Accompong mentioned...it does depend on the amount of time & distance....but I've always guesstimated at $20-25us a hour...it's simplistic but it gives you an idea of what to expect.
If any of the drivers here would like to correct me, please feel free....but this guesstimate has worked for me so far....
Hussyband,
Haven't been on the island in a few years, but I hired various drivers on almost every trip. No need to repeat the good advice previously offered...
One of the advantages of using an experienced local driver is having him help negotiate purchases or recommend places to shop or off the beaten path places to visit and see. Sometimes they get a "commission" for recommending a friend, but it usually works to your advantage as you get better service, price or experience.
One of my best adventures was with Kenny and we spent the better part of a day and night travelling all over and stopping here and there for what ever. Best money I ever spent and don't even recall the cost, but I think I tipped him something like $100 US because his expertise added so much to the experience.
Enjoy,

Just for some comparison. If I wanted to take a Private Taxi 80 miles here in the US, it would cost me about $200.00 http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.p...32560560000002
Roundtrip from Negril to my house in Accompong Town is 80 miles and I can get a driver and car to go there and back for $120. Now the petrol is more expensive there so that is even more of a cost to the driver plus he will take his time and stop whenever I want. I a private taxi here you pay everytime the car stops and the meter keeps running.
I know it is hard to compare but I think most transportation costs from the drivers I use are fare and reasonable.
Just wanted to add a little perspective.

yes, but just to run around negril, that price is way out of line . . .
I was sort of basing it off my typical fare for an airport ride, $70. Honestly, I think driver prices are pretty fair (no pun intended) compared to US pricing. We take a car service from our home to the airport, that runs us $120 each way (a bit less this year, because we are not leaving in the middle of the night). Now that I think on it.lol having people cart us around is a huge expense on our trip... Air fare, car service to the airport, to the hotel, back to the airport and back home, and all the rides we take when there. It adds up.
