What terrible news! Visiting with Mr. Colin at OTP was always a favorite stop for me. Probably only about 12 years my senior, it just seemed proper to refer to him as Mr. Colin. I loved the atmosphere at his shop. Everyone was treated with the same respect and dignity. I especially liked hanging out when he would play the trivia / quiz shows that schools compete in on his little TV.
He was a great father, great baker and a great human being.
Sincere condolences to his family. I am profoundly saddened. I just always took for granted that I would get a chance to visit again.
His shop was so clean, so family.... always kids around.... such a nice quiet, neighborhood location... I just don't get it...
Where is the outrage...The Backlash? Why is Negril taking this Lying down?
What could be worse than this? Who gets shot next? What atrocity will spur action?
Let this sink in...The nice, hardworking family man at Out of Town Pastry who works from sun up to sun down to provide for his family and also to provide culinary Jamaican culture to the people dem daily. Mi God...Those of you that met him and his family you know what a tremendous loss this is?
This was a very good man! I can't imagine a bigger loss for the west end.
Where are the fires...Where are the protests...Burn down the Lighthouse! Where are the machetes and torches?
I have read posts from Boardies that seemed resigned to the fact that this is simply the sad state of affairs?
Where is the outrage...Descendants of Maroons?
Apparently, Colin getting shot at his shop is just what happens to businessmen now.
I am sickened by this. Been in love with the west end since 1981 I will not return to Negril ever.
If this isn't the last straw what is? Never known Jamaicans to take this kind of injustice lying down!
Who dies next: Sexy Rexy. Rob Graves, Ras Rody, Paul Salmon? How can the next murder be worse than Colin Lynch?
I simply cannot process why this isn't a bigger deal?
They walked in and shot Colin at Out of Town Pastry on Hylton!

Mattmon,
Enough already. If you give a damn about Negril, don't show up spouting more violence from many miles away, trying to be some kind of hero. If you want to help, GREAT, but don't stand on a soap box preaching to others whom for the most part don't even have the ability to access this forum how to conduct their daily lives.

Yeah, fires and riots, thats the solution! Burning down a landmark? Brilliant!!! Seriously, if this is the best you have to offer as to solutions, keep them to yourself. More destruction, in a place that already has so little in some regards, is hardly helpful, nor will it bring about any sort of meaningful change. It will simply leave ashes and resentment out of what was once a source of many happy memories. How, again, does that bring about long term meaningful change? I suppose for someone who has vowed never to return, that destruction, that resentment, etc will go unnoticed, but to those that live and visit regularly, not so much. Preaching to others to rise up and "do something", while you sit at a computer screen hundreds of miles away from a place you've vowed never to return to, seems a little disingenuous to me.
