Sidewalk - are they finished or will more be done?

The original post about the sidewalk (http://negril.com/forum/showthread.p...light=sidewalk) mentioned that it would go all the way to CSA but currently only goes as far as Grand Pineapple. Is it still supposed to be completed or is that all that is going to be done?

We really enjoyed being able to go for dinner at night and walk on the sidewalk, it's a great addition, but would love to see it farther up the road as well. It really does make a huge difference

I think it has more to do with complaints with the way it looks, than the actual construction:

"The Minister of Tourism has expressed dislike for the harshness of the concrete sidewalks being built and a tour is being planned to re-examine the aesthetics of the project."

The company that created the medians was replaced early on in the project as they were not tending to the plants that were to be placed in the center of the medians. That may explain the reference to the following comment:

"However, mid-way into the project, concerns were raised by tourism interests over the type and quality of work being undertaken."

    2nutz,

I wrote this back in October when the construction was suspened for a few days for the "beautification" aspect of the sidewalk to be handled. That is what delayed the completion of the project by the original date.

As of this week, since the busy tourist season is drawing to an end, the workers have started back on the job, backhoes are starting back to clear the paths and the sidewalk is intended to run the length up to Swept Away as planned.

Thanks Rob - that's great news that construction has started again! It really is a big improvement - looking forward to the completion

    Would "soon come" apply here?

They did a lovely job at Walter Fletcher Beach (?) in Mobay - The one to the left of Margaritaville; not toward Dr.'s Cave - turned it into a park. Between Margaritaville and the beach. It's lovely! Nice walkways, and benches to enjoy the sea view - costs $ but .... it truly is worth thinking about. They did do it in Mobay .... I'm just sayin' ... if esthetics is their issue ,,,

I'd really hate to see that happen, love that place. I have to admit, I have wondered what they would do there - not a lot of space between the road and the bar...

When we were there last week I could see why there were concerns with the sidewalk and the quality of construction. It is already crumbling apart in many areas. I think a low quality mix was used in the concrete. At first glance it looks nice, but upon closer view you can see the concrete crumbling and scaling.

I wonder if this could be due to people parking their cars on the sidewalks (as I have seen in pictures). When the sidewalks were poured they may have only reinforced them in the driveway areas that would normally be subject to traffic. The areas between driveways might not have been reinforced (cost savings). Then people drive on them and park their cars on the weaker concrete causing it to break. Just a thought. No proof to what I am thinking, except for pictures of cars parked on the sidewalks.

No, that wouldn't do it. It was either a bad mix, too much sand, or they poured in extreme heat and didn't keep it moist while curing.
