Peanut porridge, mi crazy for peanut porridge.

It was early one morning. The hotel staff was just arriving and I was up,

Sitting on my veranda watching the sun slip its way through the trees.

One of the staff had a tall Styrofoam cup.
    "what ya got there, coffee?
"No mon, peanut porridge" he said.

Hmmm, peanut porridge. I have had corn meal porridge, but never peanut.
"Mon, it good man. Mi get it from Colletes, just down the road."

Well, i have always loved peanut cookies, peanut butter, anything with peanuts.

So, I showered, got dressed and started on my mission to find Colletes.

I waked, past Time Square, past Cafe Goa and other places.

A few more steps and I was there.
A screened in dining room and a couple of nice ladies working in the kitchen.

A young lady asked mi what I would like?
    Ummm, "Peanut porridge" I said.

    "large or small?

"I will try a small bowl please"
I also got 3 of those fried dough balls with the porridge.

She brought a very big mug full of coffee too.
Many taxi cab drivers would pull up and get a meal or a cup of porridge to go.

The waitress brought out a nice size bowl of porridge that was steaming hot
and the fried dough was too hot to eat right away. Almost burned my tongue.

My first spoonful and I was hooked, it was wonderful. Real stick to the ribs breakfast.

It is a nice quiet local spot on the beach road.
Give them a try for some real good peanut porridge!

Colletta's has been my go to for great box food for many years. Can't go wrong if you follow the drivers!

I have heard of peanut porridge a few times but haven't tried it yet.

I think a recommendation from a complete stranger is all I ever needed.

    Thanks for the info Marcospoon!

When I find someplace selling peanut porridge, I always get two. The first one I sip/eat right then and there. The second one goes home with me - gets put into the freezer to eat later, still frozen. Scratch a spoon across the top, one layer at a time - it's like ice cream and for some reason, really hits the spot late at night when you're looking for a sweet treat !

While I was living in Treasure Beach in 2003, a neighbor "Thumper" (who was a security guard at Golden Sands), introduced me to Almond Porridge. Whenever he harvested the almond trees, he roasted the almonds in a cast iron frying pan and made both Almond Butter (like peanut butter) and Almond Porridge. A good memory of some good times.

Also, I like to always stop at Howies Road Side cook shop in Middle Quarters on my way home to Accompong Town. Can't miss a cup of peanut porridge.
