We are going to be staying at CCLP and transportation is included in the package. Since I doubt the van driver will make a special stop anywhere for me to purchase a phone, how is the best way to get a phone to use while we are in Jamaica?

Taxi into town and go to the Digicel by the Burger King.
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him. KJV Psalm 68:4
Any chance your current phone is unlocked? If so, you can get a sim card for cheap.
Phone choices & prices vary depending on what's in stock. I've owned JA cell phones since 2000. Had to get rid of my first one since it was analog & the system changed. The one I have now is not at all fancy, works great. Have had it since 2005 or 2006. Cost me ~ $22US then.
Go to Mikey's little store across the street and ask him if he has any phones. Mo posted that after buying a LIME phone he said he had some cheaper. LIME phones have been cheaper than digicel. Their store is above ValueMaster at the roundabout. Rob has posted that you can also get Lime phones to go at gas stations (maybe your driver will stop for gas, has happened lots to me) or also in some grocery stores like HiLo. Maybe they're also at ValueMaster if the Lime store isn't open. I paid under $12 for mine a couple of years ago, should be able to get one for $25 or less ($1000-$2500 JMD).
Yup. Or if you have an old AT&T or T-Mobile phone laying around, you can call their customer service and they will help you unlock it. I have an old Blackberry that I unlocked a couple years ago, that works great on the Digicel network. I ordered a new battery for it from ebay for $2, then I brought it to the Digicel store and they hooked me up with a new SIM card and some credit for a few bucks more. I believe a few folks here have even unlocked iPhones and used them in JA. It's a nice way to reuse some old equipment that you might have lying around the house. But as others have said, you can buy a new phone inexpensively at a number shops in Negril.
I purchased a phone about 6 years ago at the Digicel store. When I visit Negril, I get a new SIM card with the minimal service/minutes for about $25. I can call both local and to the States.
