I have a few of those old bills, too. $1 USD = 80 Jamaican cents was the exchange rate on my first trip in 1984. Until recently, I used to bring them along for bookmarks, but they aren't much use with my Kindle!

My mistake in 1975 it was actually $1 JD was worth .80 cents USD. Red Stripe was like 50 cents Jamaican, pitching a tent in Gloria Jackson's yard (Gloria's Sunset Cottages) $2 USD per day. Fistful of Ganj a couple bucks. Your old JA cash is probably worth more as a collector's item.
Is that a picture of UVM as your member pic???
I also recall getting a ride with the brother of our resort owner and he was listening to a song about how Jamaica needed a $50 bill. Another growing rarity these days. I gave him a $10 US bill as a substitute because the rate was about $5J:$1US (c. 1986).
No, that's Sage Hall at Cornell University. It was built as the women's college fulfilling the founder's vision of "Any person. Any study." I managed a project to mellon ball the building leaving just the original brick facade and stuffing a modern business school inside. My wife and I wrote a book about the history of women at CU, the controversy over the renovation and the challenges of the project. www.sagehallbook.com Respect --Marblehead

Thanks Marblehead,
Yes Ithaca is a pretty cool spot, nice job with the book. Yes the Old Mill building at UVM had a round spire. Burlington was a great place especially in the 70's. Now it is quite expensive, especially tuition. Same everywhere I guess??? Negril used to be almost $5 USD a day, used to go down for a month at a time.
Cool Runnings

Just changed my Avatar to an image of Marblehead at the Bluefields Jerk Center. How appropriate! I'll have to add the book link to my signature.
Burlington and Ithaca share the best and worst of great college towns. I've never been to Burlington, but need to add it to my bucket list. Now that I'm retired, I'll get to more places and will be staying in Negril for a month at a time. Not for $5 US/day though! Respect --Marblehead
