    Sorrell Juice time!

    Hi,

I’m Linston of Linston’s Zion Hill Taxi (www.redplate-negril.com)

When I’m not providing transportation and tours my dad (captaind) and I have a farm 6 miles from Negril that I grew up on.

It’s getting close to the Holiday season and we’re preparing to make the traditional Sorrell juice for the season

This is our Sorrell crop this year.

The juice is made from the flower of the Sorrell that you will see in the beginning of the video. The plants will be ready for the Christmas Holiday and we’ll be making the juice just before.

In the video you’ll hear dad talking about slugs (snails) that can ruin a crop. Being strictly organic we don’t use chemicals to kill them. We use cane VINEGAR. Natural repellant and poison for slugs!

Call me at 376-3652 for your airport transfers and tours and I’ll be happy to show you our beautiful island!

    All the best

    Linston

PS to Yetta... Dad and mom will be here when you are and we'll have a bottle of Izel's Sorrell waiting for you!

OMG....Yes, yes and yes sir!!!!! Trust mi guys, this is some of the best yardie sorrel with ginger that I have ever tasted!!! I have had many locals make me a batch of sorrel while on the rock BUT, this stuffs rocks the rock!!!! Rich, sweet yet tart with a touch a ginger that gives that special bite. Great alone or even better with some nice rum.

Linston, thanks to you and your family! Looking forward to seeing you at the airport in about 4-5 weeks. Bring some along with you and we will compensate you. If not, I am definitely planning to visit Zion Hill for some relaxation and some planting tips for here at home....I can pick some up then. Don't worry yourself if it is not possible upon arrival, there is plenty of time since we will be there for 3 weeks plus. Blessings sent!!! Soon come............

Love sorrel, we make several gallons, with lots of Ginger. Sometimes with pimento. Good with JB Overproof!

The sorrel flower is pretty - delicate but nothing flashy (the red pod left on the red stalk is actually a bit more eye catching I think). The sorrel flower reminds me a bit of a single hibiscus and have always meant to see if they're related. When I make up my own batches of sorrel, I like to take the boiled pods and add them to a bowl of porridge, or yogurt - kind of reminds me of rhubarb and if I was any kind of cook, would try using them in a pie.

I have Jamaicans friends at home that keep me will stocked with Sorrell year round. I usually spike it with a good amount of overproof.

I won't mash up sorrell juice with rum!

Put the overproof in a glass with water to mix in second glass. Drink the rum diluted to your taste.

    NOW DRINK THE SORRELL !!!!!!
