    Today is Michael Manley's birthday

Prime minister in the 70s and then again in the late 80's

He's one of the faces printed on the money...also his father is on the money and the beach road is named for him.

Cap were you in JA during the 1980 Election??? Photo is at a rally at the roundabout after meetings at the Negril Beach Club the day before the election that he lost to Seaga. Probably people in the photo you recognize (Negril locals)

Sure was. Spent the week before the election at the guest house at the estate. Seemed prudent at the time

Re: Today is Michael Manley's birthday

I was young at the time and full of adventure, so choosing that time in history to be in JA might not have been the smartest decision although I am here to tell about it. Flew into MoBay and hitched east (pointing to the road as opposed to a thumb in the air) got several rides, one a flat bed truck, they were going to Spanish Town via Moneague in St. Ann. The truck driver stopped to eat and said it was too dangerous to take me into Spanish Town. Met a guy at the shop who bought me dinner and took me in to his home where I spent the night (very cool story). Next day caught rides back to Ochie and then east to Buff Bay and then upwards into Portland to Green Hill for a couple days, then down to Town via Newcastle and stayed in K-ston for a few. Took the train to Mobay and on to Negril where I met and photographed PM MM. What a trip!!!!!Name: The Peat Family.jpg
