food allergies suck.....mine is shellfish and my BF is eggs and peanuts. I always carry my epi pen and liquid Benadryl. I am usually pretty good of telling the wait staff of my allergy and they are usually pretty good of making sure there is no cross-contamination. I've had one incident in Negril where I thought I was going to have to use my epi pen.....I went to a shop on the beach road that made homemade patties and ordered some chicken and beef patties....got back to my room and bit into one right away. As I was chewing I realized it was shrimp. They messed up my order. Thankfully I didn't swallow much and was able to take Benadryl and had no reaction.
