    Random Questions. Very Random

    1. How far is Sav La Mar from Negril and how much does it cost to have a driver take you there?

    2. What are Dumplings in Jamaica filled with?

    3. What is "Chicken Back"?

    4. Where do you keep your passports when visiting Jamaica?

    Thanks!

I can do 2 of these for you Chicken Back is very literally the back part of the chicken and I have had it curried and I didn't find it very meaty (being used to chicken quarters at home) but it gave a great flavor to the meal. We use a pac safe bag and keep our passports and our exit paperwork safely tucked inside and secured within our room. Hopefully we never lose them, but just in case, I have scanned them and emailed them to myself so we have all the information needed to get replacements.

    1. Sav is an approx. 20 min. drive from Negril...driver price will depend on how long you spend in Sav with that driver.

    2. Dumpling is either fried or boiled with nothing inside...boiled is made of flour, water, cornmeal & salt...fried is flour, butter/oil, salt, water, baking powder etc...

Sav for us last week was $80. He took us to the market, the grocery store, to lunch, and about a half dozen little places ... We could not find limes for love or money. The driver also negotiated with vendors when we were buying produce at the market, and explained a lot of what I was seeing for the first time.

Keep your passports in the safe, and keep a copy separate just in case. An scanned email is an awesome idea as plong noted... I am doing that next time.

Route taxi is under 10 usd pp/rt. As much as I love suggesting route taxis, Sav is best discovered with some local help....a trusted driver would be better, an expat even better.....with some skill, Mobay can even be cheaper.

$80 for a trip to Sav is good price, as Hussyband said. We combined a trip to Sav with a trip to Abekuta and paid our driver $120 for the 2 of us. But as Bnewb said the price will depend on how long your trip is.

The first thing I do when I get to the hotel is put our passports (and other valuables) in the room safe. I used to carry around my US Drivers License, just in case anybody asked for ID. For example, If I lost a room a key and needed to prove that I was actually registered at the hotel. However, at the places we stay the managers, owners, etc. know us by name so that has never been an issue.

Tripit is an awesome travel app, accessed by app and/or computer. You forward confirmation emails to it, flight, hotels, and add in activities and whatever you like. I scan my passport as a jpg and add it, add taxi drivers and numbers, insurance info, health and other. It creates a trip itinerary by day. If your phone goes missing, you can access all of your info by logging into any computer.

Sav is a very nice and close destination. Local help is great but alone you can manage too.

I remember flying to JA from the US with only a drivers license or birth certificate, those were the days. Does JA still charge a departure tax???????Name: Sav View.jpg
