Stacko, I bring my rod everywhere I go. Have been going to negril for 15 yrs. I stopped bringing it a couple years ago, just wasn't catching anything. I have seen some bonito jumping but not very often. I am thinking of bringing it this feb with the idea of hooking some barracuda. I was in the keys last year and found a killer lure for cuda and was thinking about giving it a try this year in negril.

hahaha johng! Yeah she can get on my nerves occasionally, but if I'm going to paradise I'm sure not gonna let any little nitpicking get to me, and shes way too pretty to use for croc bait. I've looked at the appleton tour and looks real fun. We would probably try to do that and YS on the same day. DSF might not be in my itinerary for this time but I'll sure try a bit of fishing with a local not far off shore to say I tried it, as Mtig suggested. I'm not gonna hassle with bringing a pole but I'll get creative if I need to. Relax have a smoke and let the waves push me around for a while. Either way I'll be on island time, so no worries mon!

    stacko66,

You are putting words in my mouth dude. Croc bait???? For your gal??? where did you get that idea??? Man you must a been thinkin this stuff up already. My point to you was there is nothing worse than on a great trip to JA, A guy wants to go for an innocent little fishing outing and a girlfriend, wife goes on a wussie fit about it !!!

Now unless your a rookie in these matters, or your chic digs battling the deep sea in hopes of catching a fish then leverage is the equalizer right??? How does a gal punish her man other than breakin balls??? Yea you know the answer to that one!!! So you come up with a compromise of some sort that she gets what she wants and you get what you want. Fair is fair!! As they say there's plenty a fish in the sea!!! As a fisherman you know that like tying a six - turn San Diego jam!!!

Last time I tried carrying on a fishing pole I the airline wasn't very receptive so like you I know I can find the equipment I need on location.

If you really want to have some fun (what red blooded American Fisherman doesn't) deep-sea, offshore, salt water contact Captain Raymond Moxam AKA TALLA

Wishing you a great trip and hope that that Croc at the Black River Safari only gets chicken for lunch!!! HAHAHA!!!

    Re: Big fish

One of our earliest trips to Negril I went out with a captain and boat which are no longer there. It was slow season and he wanted to fish so offered to take me out for the price of the gas. We went out beyond the reef and trolled for about 3 hours and caught 6-7 tuna and a barracuda. When we came back in he sold the fish to locals, I remember that the barracuda was cut in half and purchased by two different people.

I kept one of the tuna which we took to Pirates Cove where my wife and I returned that evening for dinner. It was still to this day the best fish meal we have ever eaten.
