Feb 14-21 with 5 year old
Hi,
My Fiance and I will be staying at Travellers for a week in Feb with her 5 year old. I have been to Negril several times but it will be first time for them.
Any suggestions on kid-friendly activities? Is there any hope that we could get an evening or afternoon to ourselves (trustworthy child care)?
Any other families with kids around his age going to be around?
Can't wait!

You could ask your hotel to recommend someone. Hire her for the day with you and see the rapport. If you like her you could ask her to sit in the evenings. Your 5 year old will be out cold from all the beach play and you won't be far. The beach and pool will keep her entertained. If you are there early Feb you have the Donkey races.

Hi Solo,
When we got married we brought our little guy(he was just under 2 at the time) We enjoyed most days on the beach just lounging and playing in the sand. We did hit up Kool Runnings water park and had a great time there with the splash pool and lazy river float.
As far as evening care maybe PM BNEWB as she helped us out with a wonderful lady by the name of Beverly. She cared for our guy the night of our wedding and then one more night while we went to Seastar. She came right to us and was so fantastic I don't have words for it. Up to that point no one other than a family member has ever cared for him and I felt anxious about the idea. She put my worries at rest almost immediately and my little guy took to her like salt to the sea!
You will have a blast experiencing Negril from a little ones perspective and I have to add he had more friends on the beach than we did!!! Everyone was so wonderful with him and I felt we had 100 eyes on him at all times!
Enjoy!

Mayfield Falls, is a nice place for the kids. The "river guides" will help and hold your likkle one and she will be treated like a queen! Its a nice likkle ride out there to! Try out Steve Positive Tours for the transportation needs
~ There's plenty to do in Negril for kids. IMO

Good idea to PM Lisa. I had a staff member at the house we stayed at babysit one night and it was great. I'm sure you wont have a problem figuring something out.

Kool Runnings
Margaritaville trampolines
Sunbeach for lunch / swings at the bar
For the most part, your little one will likely be happy just playing on the beach, building sandcastles, swimming, and making friends.
Jamaicans generally love children and treat them very warm and kindly. Ya'll are going to have a great time.

We have been traveling with our now 3 and 7 year old daughters since the likkle one still in mamas tummy! You will have no problem finding someone to watch your little one. As Dash says meet up with your caretaker and see how the rapport is with her and your child and then go from there. In our experience jamaicans are very considerate of the children. Always taking time to talk to them and really even looking out for them. I have even been scolded by a jamaican lady once when she thought I was not keeping a good enough eye on her. It is all about "di bebe's" when they are around.

Oh...and as everyone has stated she will likely be more than entertained by the beach, pool and goings on on the beach. Our kids are wiped at the end of the day from all the sun, fresh air and bustle of the beach. They are usually out by the time their heads hit the pillows!
